couple things...
1. comments like the one above that said "oh please let it be day for night part 2". why would you want the band to create the same album over again? that is the worst idea ever. bands are supposed to evolve... if you want to hear the same sound over and over again, then i suggest to go back to listening to brittney spears.
2. when Rob is playing his solo, there is a guy sitting next to him.. who is he?
3. these videos are awesome. thanks to Mav and the band!

I agree that the song on part two has a Day For Night feel. DFN is the bands darkest album IMO and it is easy to associate the tone of this new track with that masterpiece.
At the end of part two we get a sample of some of Gords lyrics right before Robbie lays down that sweet solo. The lyrics seem to be about the stars and something about "let them fall". It made me think of the Latin phrase "Fiat justitia (et ruat caelum) - Let justice be done. (though the heavens fall)".

Not create the same album again, but it would be nice if the new album had a feel or tone like DFN did. The Hip are a rock band and it's not like they've reinvented the wheel with every album or anything. The Hip are always going to be recognizable, even though they do change things up enough with each outing. Since DFN was by far the greatest album The Hip have ever made, I don't think it's a bad thing that some fans want the band to make songs that kind of remind them of DFN a bit. What are you looking for in the new album? You think The Hip are gonna break out a techno album? Rock and roll is actually kind of limited, so it's impossible for The Hip not to repeat some things along the way. I'd rather have the new album remind me more of DFN than WC.

Thanks Phil and Keeper, my thoughts exactly.
DFN was a masterpiece and nothing like digging back for a masterpeice's sound.
I'll forget the rediculous Brittney and Nickleback comments, they really dont deserve an answer.
I think supporting the Hip for twenty years and seeing them 58 times, gives me the right to ask for anything I want really. :wink:
BTW, besides the obvious DFN tunes, go and put on An Inch and Hour full blast and tell me you wouldn't want to hear something similiar to that again someday.

There is absolutely nothing limiting about rock and roll...nothing. It is so vast and varied. Saying it is limiting is just plain silly. Just this morning I was feeling nostalgic and I threw on "The Real Thing" by Faith No More. Both my wife and I commented on how good the album was/is and how unique sounding it was then and still is today. Nothing at all sounds like it. The same can be said for Jane's Addiction, 'Nothing's Shocking". Blind Melon, 'Soup" is another fine example. There are tons of examples of truly unique and great sounding albums.
I think the Hip have done very well in their progression from one album to the next and to me they all sound quite different. They don't need to repeat anything if they so choose.

Ok, I'll just say this then-- The Hip are very limited in what they can do. They are fine musicians, but they are limited in what they can play. If Robby Baker could play Hendrix-level or Clapton-level licks, HE WOULD. I'm sure I'll enjoy the new album, like I've enjoyed all of their albums, but don't act like the band is revolutionizing music with each new album.
There are only so many chord progressions. Heck, Summer's Killing Us seems to have similiar chords as Baba O'reilly. So, is SKS really that original and groundbreaking?
What do you guys expect on the new album, anyway? I mean, it's gonna sound like The Hip but it's gonna be pretty predictable, too. And there's nothing wrong with that, by the way. Johnny is gonna provide a solid backbone, there are gonna be crunchy guitars, some hard driving rhythms, Gord is gonna have fantastic lyrics, and Robbie will probably have some solid solos.

I was simply giving another example of a band that sounds exactly the same all the time. I knew you weren't asking for a reduplication of DFN.
