That's correct. You can't stop someone from recording your song, you can only demand payment.
To record someone else's song you get what's called a "compulsory license," by simply serving notice that you are recording it and paying the necessary fee. This is unique to music, i.e. doesn't apply to copying any other kind of work.

seven thumbs down. actually heard this last week on itunes while trying to find interesting stuff for a covers mix. listened to about three seconds before moving on. settled for stereophonics cover of fiddlers. any other semi-well known bands/artists that have done hip covers, apart from the sarah polley thing from the sweet hereafter?

Not the worst thing I've ever heard... but it doesn't exactly make me want to race out to my nearest music store to buy her CD.

Horrible.
Shaye opened up for Live a few years ago at the Festival of Lights in Charlottetown and couldn't keep my attention then. I am even less interested in listening to any of the girls these days. I don't care for any of them as far music goes, and I don't think Doyle is attractive either, for whatever it's worth. :rambo:
