I'll have to call Gord up, then.

Isn't it odd that one of the few people here smart enough to understand the true profundity of Coconut Cream can't figure out the significance of a T-shirt?

- laliber - 04-06-2008

perhaps Gord is/was a member of PETA

That's like saying that I only heard a short, distorted clip of the song. I mean, maybe it would be easier if I, you know, had a full, unblurred image of the shirt and that maybe, oh, I had a physical copy in my hand.

- ron - 04-06-2008

looks to me that the picture of the dog on the shirt might be benji

That would hold true if you were one of us average-intelligence schmucks. But no -- you're one of the few people here who's bright enough to grasp the meaning of Coconut Cream.

You should be able to make sense out of a mere T-shirt.

I mean, it doesn't get hard until you try to figure out the significance of Gord's jeans.

Personally, I'm tired of sarcasm as a rhetorical device. it's our generational default — to a fault. But there's no counting for taste. Allow me to recommend understatement. More of us should try it on. We might like it.

Few tragically hip fans have an opinion arrogant enough to relegate another fan's belief as insignificant. Even if you're a passionate hip fan/music lover, I would think you'd have enough sense of the band and its fans that the people the scene attracts could earn a little of your respect — whether or not you find profound meaning in what they hold to be evident.

I just reread this thread and... Damn. I was just curious about his shirt. Sad

We really need a new album to get us back on track. We're bored.

There is sarcasm, but there is also context – if this was an honest to goodness leave no trace camping thread about Coconut Cream, well any “your opinion is nothing but shit”, would be sarcastic, and disingenuous. However, this is a thread about a t-shirt, started by a gent who was tearing a strip off of a cover band, and what began as an understatement grew into something we could no longer contain…

Has anyone noticed that all the threads follow the same template lately?

1. Someone brings up something ultimately meaningless about the tragically hip in a tragically hip message board (I know... the nerve)

2. A few people show interest and try to discuss

3. More people harass that person for bringing up something which doesn't meet their standard of conversation

4. Someone says Coconut Cream is a bad song

5. People defend Coconut Cream and talk about how it changed music history

6. Skippy the Wonder Bitch says something ignorant and condescending

7. A few people take some jabs at that bonner guy

8. Everyone is wrong except for the person posting and the thread eventually ends when people just don't want to "fight" anymore

As for the shirt - maybe Gord just really likes that dog.......

Yay, for thread necromancy! I missed this post the first time around. Skippy, ya made me laugh but a year later!

By the way, I still like coconut cream.
