You would think that they should play three or four nights to really make the opening special. I don't think they would have any problem selling out. Plus, Rob owes us after convincing taxpayers to foot the bill for the arena.

I think there has really only been three shows in Kingston since the Hip really, really broke the scene, prior to their bar band days.
Without looking, I believe 2004 Across The Causeway, 1994/95 Day For Night Tour, and 1993 Richardson stadium??..........At least I think.
Hip talk aside, it will be very interesting to see what other names Kingston will now be able to get with the new arena. The John Labatts Centre in London sure has drawn in some great concerts since it has opened. Granted it is larger.........but still its going to be interesting.

I don't know about bringing in big acts. Oshawa built the General Motors Centre and yet... nobody came. The only concerts we've had since its been opened is the one hip concert and Bachman-Cummings the other night. I think INXS or something played there a while ago but thats it. The way it was hyped up I (and others) was expecting many acts to be coming to the Shwa as a smaller market venue

Probably the biggest difficulty for Oshawa is that they fall within the 60 mile exclusivity for the Air Canada Centre that many promoters have. Kingston will benefit from being a good stop on the way between Toronto and Montréal or Ottawa, much like London gets from Detroit-Toronto, where a date will be slid in there at the smaller (but still profitable) market and venue in between.

Oshawa being so close to Toronto, I wonder if that makes it a bit harder for them.............
Kingston is in a pretty good spot, basically half way between T.O. and Ottawa. Hopefully that would be a good market for acts to stop off for.........

Kingston is a PERFECT location in my books !
I prefer the 401 into Kingston over the 401 into Toronto any day of the week .
K-Town already has a thriving music scene and with this new arena it will hopefully only get bigger ... Kingstons K-Rock does a great job presenting bands too. :thumb:
