I still listen to this album on a regular basis. It's definitely got staying power. Ocean, Rink, Fly, Luv(sic), Kids, Last Night I Dreamed, Drop Off, and Family Band are such great songs. That being said, I still can't stand the overly excessive production on the title track. I still maintain that the song should have been done acoustically. To this day I can only listen to live versions of that song, as the studio version just makes me cringe.

But yea, great album overall.

Listening to it right now. Still as great as the day it came out.

See, I was scared before WC came out because of the drastic change in sound. This time around I don't doubt that the new album will be amazing. Bathouse, Bob Rock, going at their own pace... I really can't see it being bad.

Everytime I listen to World Container I realize how good Up To Here and Road Apples really were. Hey Downie, get in touch with Don Smith next time. You might have another classic ablum left in the tank?

As much as I love those albums, I'd be really disappointed if they came out with another album that sounded exactly like UTH or RA. It would mean the creativity tank was empty.

Are you saying that Up To Here and Road Apples lacked creativity? What tunes do the Hip primarily close their shows with? Usually something from one of their first two albums. I'm guessing that is more than simply coincidence.

how is copying something you've already done creative? do you think ACDC is a creative band?

I don't think he's saying that at all. There's no question that Up to Here and Road Apples are both classic albums. Those were the records that turned me onto the Hip in the first place. But if they had released 10 albums that sounded like Up to Here, I would've stopped listening to them years ago. For me, a band has to grow and change with each album, otherwise I lose interest. Why would the Hip want to repeat themselves? I for one am glad that each Hip record has had a distinctly different sound and feel than the previous one, and I can't wait to hear what they have in store for us next. The fact that they can throw in a few different twists and turns on each album is what makes them a great band.

Ya, but look at the backlash at M@W, or even IVL (which I think is one of their best). After a while, the band might just go, hell let's give the people what they want. Although I don't see The Hip having that type of mentality.

You make zero sense. :nooooo Why would a new album with a previous producer sound the same as the old albums they did with said producer? Did RA sound exactly like UTH? And if you think that going back to Don Smith would be rehashing the same material, why are you alright with The Hip being produced by Bob Rock again? Aren't you afraid that the next album will sound exactly like WC? I mean, you gotta be consistent with your theories.

How the hell would working with Don Smith again result in the same music as RA and UTH? RA wasn't just a copy of UTH so why would a new album produced by Smith be a re-creation? How come there is a double standard with you guys? How come you're scared of them re-creating RA but you're not scared of them re-creating WC? What, do you think that Don Smith is incapable of change and Bob Rock is always creating new and exciting stuff?

Who says they would repeat themselves if they worked with Don Smith again? Who says that they aren't repeating themselves with Bob Rock working on back to back albums? Why is there such a fear of Don Smith but an acceptance of Bob Rock?

I don't want to enter this argument, I just wanna say that I got into the Hip after they had already released 10 albums and what I loved about them was that every album, while still sounding like the Hip, sounded different. Each album has a unique sound. Whatever they put out next I'm sure I will love it.

That's not what I'm saying. What I got from the original post is that Bakersbrew would prefer it if the Hip put out another record that sounded like Up to Here or Road Apples, essentially going back and re-hashing the blues rock sound of old, and that going back to Don Smith would result in that sound. To clarify, I could care less which producer they work with, as long as they're not repeating themselves. That's all I meant. If they did indeed work with Don Smith again, I personally don't think it would sound anything like UTH or RA. The Hip sound the way they do right now because that's where they happen to be in the course of their musical/artistic development. They're a very different band today than they were in 1991. In my opinion they're better.
