My friend and part-time bass coach, Dave Schroeder is the bass player in Little Bones, the Ottawa-Based Tragically Hip tribute Band. Not only is he in this band but he is also in a very accomplished Rush Tribute band called Limelight....He is also an exceptionally Musically and Jazzically trained Bassist.

Having played a great deal of music over the years I can HONESTLY profess that this man is most definitely the most accomplished bass player to ever lay down a Tragically Hip bass line since the one and only Gord Sinclair.

Nothing beats watching Dave play The Hip's music, he finds a magical way to play each note like he was the very architect of that note on that particular bass line, playing close attention to the Hip's rare brand of contemporary flair.

thehip420 Looks like you missed it,

On may 11 this production crew did record the practically hip's set at whiskey joes and May 19 at the Gladstone.

I was at both shows.

Message to Stephen : Tell the documentary guys to come to Lewiston on June 30th and July 1st.
That is where the real Hip fans will be. Two Canada Day shows in the States. Where else would a real Hip fan want to be ?
The mix of Americans and Canadiens will be a true account of real Hip fans.
We have a cover band in Buffalo too. They are not bad too. I am sure they are playing somewhere in Lewiston that day.
Have fun tonight even though the real Hip won't be there.

The documentary is about cover/tribute bands - it's not about The Hip or Hip fans. They want Hip fans there to give their thoughts on the cover/tribute band.

So I'm back from Tweed, and despite a bird, a frog, and a couple of raccoons, we had a good time. "Little Bones" are an entertaining act and really sounded good.

Fingers are crossed that we don't come off as über-geeks...

I am glad I went as well, I really did enjoy the experience. Little Bones are a great tribute band, they play very well and obviously have fun doing it. It was cool to give my thoughts to the TV crew and it will be interesting to see what the final product is like. And I am glad I got to meet a few of the Hipbasers live and in person... Chris, Trevor and Stephen (thanks again for the ride).

I'll finish by repeating what I said to you guys last night... let's hope we can do a road trip like this again soon, only to see the REAL thing! :thumb:

amen.

Great meeting you in person too! :thumb:

The night was great - would have been better if the Sens actually lost but beggers can't be choosers I guess!

Looking forward to see the documentary for sure.
I've seen Road Apples play the Kee to Bala twice. Entertaining but looking forward to the real deal at the Kee in July.

I'd argue that the cover bands are certainly fans, and that aspect of the unique fan culture is the basis of the documentary. When it was first discussed, it was much broader in scope, but the cover-band angle was the final result.

...and you can bet we're gonna look like uber geeks, only slightly due to the fact that we are. Smile

Hey guys, glad you enjoyed the experience. It was quite interesting for us as welll, and it was a pleasure meeting you. Both film crews were very nice. Re Tweed, I know they wanted to capture the essence of smaller towns as well. This was a lot of fun - right up there (but a little short of) meeting most of The Hip at the Vancouver airport a couple months ago. When I mentioned to Gord S that I had been playing in one of the trib bands for 13 or so years, he said "thanks for doing that".

We too are wondering how the documentary ends up.

Stay Hip!

Dan from Little Bones
