chris Wrote:OK... so I'm in, and it sucks.

In the middle of ABAC they cut to a commercial...

I'm on it too....what a load of crap.

This is probably the worst radio show I have ever heard. But I am recording it so ya'll can hear what a load of crap it is.

I thought that The Hip were supposed to be on this show...

Wow! I cannot believe that people actually listen to this garbage.

So The Hip aren't on or what's the deal?

About 75 minutes ago, the host asked some innane questions to the band... but their mics were not on so you couldn't hear their answers... then the host/team spent 20 minutes talking about nothing. The band was introduced and they started in on ABAC and then about half way into it some commercials started playing over the music and eventually they just went into the commercials.

They also have a guest in from a fighting league similar to the UFC. The host made some jokes that he thought that Ricky (The Hip's security) was the guy from the fighting league, and that he was more of a threat.

That's it so far.

Now they are talking to Dave Navarro and he has apparently heard of The Hip.

"I've heard of them, but I've never heard them". I'm willing to bet it went something like that.

Oh my god. They finally got to another hip song only to have it cut off less than a minute into In View......unbelieveable

- chris - 05-11-2007

It gets worse with each passing minute.

They started into "In View" and it was cut.

They performed this much of the song:

I love you. You know I do
Yea, it’s perfect…well, it isn’t and it is

And I’ve been meaning to call you
I’ve been meaning to call you

- srb - 05-11-2007

So that was a complete waste of $5.95.

Half of "Ahead By A Century", and 4 lines from "In View", and an hour and a half of listening to this idiot go on about nothing.

It was like he used the band to play live bumper music.

What a joke (and I emailed mancow and told him so)

- chris - 05-11-2007

I'll post the 57 seconds of The Hip soon....

For everyone interested in hearing how not to run a radio show, here's the web-rip:

Gord didn't seem impressed at all...
And I think he botched the "performance" on purpose. I bet someone on the Hip management got a massive earful after this one.
Holy fuck. This is so bad on so many levels.
And they ask to pay for this shit?
What the fuck.
I am in awe.

- opiated - 05-11-2007

i'm not surprised at how shit it was..i am surprised the hip or their management agreed to this..i'm actually disappointed in the band for doing this..i thought they were above this shit.

sean.bonner Wrote:In my humble, uneducated opinion (i'm sure Opiated would know WAY more on the matter), I find for the most part, American Radio is more "in your face" and talkative than Canadian radio...(at least in the maritimes anyway). I mean, sure the DJs talk, but their goal is to play kickass music (...or what they think is kickass at least). I remember driving through Connecticut, and almost all the stations had massive "techno"-like music pumping every second a DJ was talking and attempting to be funny.
Kinda bugged me.
I'm sure not every station in the States is like this...
And I'm not sure every station in Canada isn't.
Just my two cents.

you're pretty bang on, but i'm afraid a lot of canadian jocks are leaning towards that states mentality..the real problem in radio, is that the jocks are losing more and more power on what to play..it's run by suits who just look at the bottom line, but don't realize that the bottom line suffers by not being original...
