TSn had the Top 10 Opening pitches on Sportscentre this morning, there's been some bad ones! I was surprised how how awful Patrice Bergeron's was! He was clearly embarrassed Smile

And speaking of the ceremonal faceoffs in hockey. I was watching one of my old Don Cherry DVDs last week, either 13 or 14 I think, and I had forgotten about the time Derian Hatcher was skating to center ice for the faceoff & fell down. It was funny seeing it on tv because the camera is focused in on the person who is going to drop the puck & the opposing teams captain (can't remember who it was), and then out of nowhere you see Derian Hatcher sliding through the faceoff circle Smile

I think the batter just whiffed at the pitch on purpose, just for show I would think. Or maybe they do try to go yard, that would be cool.

Sadly, HE DID practice. Apparently he practiced awhile the day before, and was throwing them just as horribly then, but off the 3rd base side of the plate. Guess he overcompensated.

If you are the Mayor of a major city and you KNOW that you throw like an epileptic girl, why would you ever agree to throw out the first pitch???...you know you're gonna come off looking like an ass

I wondered the same thing.

He said that when Bob Castellini (Reds owner) calls you and asks you to throw out the first pitch on Opening Day, "it's just not something you say 'no' to".

In your case, Mark, it obviously is.

To his credit though, he's taking the jabs (which are being levied from across the globe) in stride. He's having fun with it, releasing a tongue-in-cheek list of "Top 10 Excuses" for the debacle, and is even spinning it into an opportunity for national exposure, as he apparently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel last night.
