Nobody said it was... For the record I still think Tie Domi's elbow on Scott Niedermayer a few years back was the biggest cheap shot I've ever seen (and I'm a Leafs' fan). Just as bad as the Bertuzzi incident IMO.

 I was merely commenting on the fact that the above mentioned mid-90's instructional video series, popular with minor hockey coaches from coast to coast in Canada, was not, to my knowledge, exported to Russia, and hence Ovechkin would likely not have had the opportunity to view it. Based on the play in question, I feel he could benefit from a screening of said program. At no point did I say that cheap shots are unique to Russians. Regarding the Canadian players you listed, I believe Lemieux and McSorley were already well into their NHL careers when the videos came out, so it was probably too late for them anyway. As for Bertuzzi, I don't know, perhaps he never had the opportunity to view the program, or perhaps he was not a fan of Mike Bossy and chose to become a gutless thug to spite Bossy's message of fair play and respect for one's opponent

everyone always seems to forget that Moore took a gutless run at Naslund in a sad attempt to try to make a name for himself, and that's what caused the whole incident in the first place ...

I think calling it a "gutless run at Naslund" might be a bit of a stretch. His sin was that he actually attempted to body check a superstar. That appears to be a no-no - and a one-way ticket to a broken neck. Wait a second, that doesn't seem right. Maybe he didn't "cause" Bertuzzi to blind side him with a blow to the head from behind.
Should someone have fought him? Probably, yeah. That cowardly sucker punch from behind? No way. Moore didn't cause anything.

If you've ever played the game, you know how quickly things can and do happen. Now, multiply that quickness by 100, because the game happens a helluva lot faster in the NHL than it does in bantam. I simply can't imagine Moore having the time to think to himself "
here's my chance to make a name for myself" in that split second (and remember, the 1,546,732 replays we saw of that hit were in slow motion).

grimes Wrote:Hitting from behind is as gutless a play as you can get. Briere was five feet from the boards and Ovechkin hit him square in the numbers, pretty much the most dangerous type of hit you can have.
And the failure to suspend Ovechkin is pretty much the same BS I've come to expect from the NHL. They didn't suspend him, ultimately, because Briere wasn't hurt.
I don't think for a second that Ovechkin intended to hurt him. He was simply taking a cheap shot from behind at a player leaving the ice. But that hit was unjustifiable and had the
potential to hurt him. And the NHL needs to punish actions for their potential repercussions, not their actual repercussions. It's not okay to take unjustifiable cheap shots as long as no one gets hurt.
But that attitude is built into the NHL. Think about it. If you want to protect players' eyes, should you penalize a high stick with a four-minute penalty regardless, or only take it seriously if it draws blood?
Think the judge should toss your speeding ticket because you didn't actually hurt anyone?

Hockey brings out the worst in people. Even in my small community, when people get on the ice they have no regard for anybody. Sticks get up, hitting from behind is just accepted, grown men challenge other men to fight for no other reason than they are barbaric neanderthals.
Sounds like Fort Smith Rec hockey. We've got a couple of young goalies here who think their sticks are axes.
I do agree with those who say Ovechkin could have let up, players always losen up when they're heading to the bench on a change.
And what about the Canucks......ouch?

Taunting Habs fans about Huet's bad game a couple of days after Miller lets in 3 goals on 9 shots against the Crapitals? Tsk tsk. You need to work on your timing.

Haha I knew that was coming. Believe me I was at that Capitals game and it sucked being down 3-0 in the first 6 minutes. I just wanted to throw that out there for TDC.

and I thought it was a misspelled longing for HASEK, either that or a veiled reference to Norm Farr

The Canucks are a sad hockey team right now. They should never have overpaid for Morrison and Cooke like they did.
Any high sticking penalty should be an automatic 1 game suspension. High sticking is inexcusable and CAN BE PREVENTED.

You think watching an instructional video is going to affect how grown men, professional players at that, act on the ice?
