I remember conversations with my buddies after those shows where we'd wonder, "how can he do that, an do it all over again tomorrow night?". There was a period between then and now where I remember having different conversations addressing a sort of change in his approach...whether it was a product of a deliberate effort to protect his vocal cords, or of a style that was bred for the material they were doing at the time, or of something completely unintentional resulting from playing hundreds of shows across the globe...I can't say. Perhaps they realized they were likely going to be doing this for awhile, and he needed to protect his asset, so to speak? And maybe now they realize they're toward the end of the run, and there's no reason "save" anything? This talk about 'screaming and yelling'... it seems to me that this is the same approach I remember witnessing in the early 90s, and the observable differences between now and then are a result of tonal characteristics due to both wear and age. This, for me, doesn't sully anything. The band, as a whole, sounded terrific in the middle and at the end of the NFPA tour. I was quite impressed actually, given the fact there were almost 20 years and hundreds of shows between then and now. Would I like to hop in a time machine and see them perform in 1993 again? Well hell yeah I would.

I'd also like to be able to do everything exactly as I could at age 25.

Well said, Esthete. And I agree with a lot of your points. However I feel I should clarify my opinion a bit. I'm not asking for Gord's voice to sound like it did in 1993. His voice has clearly changed over the years, and it would be impossible for him to sound like he did when he was 25. But lately he doesn't seem to sing at all when he's with the Hip, at least to my ears. His vocals were pretty terrible at the last 3 Hip shows I attended, and his performance on Hockey Night in Canada a couple of weeks ago was downright embarrassing. But here's the weird thing (and I've mentioned this in other threads as well), he only seems to do the out-of-key shouting thing when he performs with the Hip. When I saw him earlier this summer with The Sadies, he sounded terrific. His singing that night was really strong, vibrant, in-key, and he sang in his natural range. And he still sounds excellent in the studio too, as evidenced by his stellar performance on the NFPA record. So we know he can still sing when he wants to. I just wish he'd do it more often during Hip gigs, that's all.

And maybe he will, those who chose not to go to any shows this tour will be saying to themselves, "damn, I should have gone" :nooooo

Nope. I'm perfectly content with the fact that I'm skipping this tour. The ticket prices are unreasonable for an arena Hip show (Calgary tix are $140). If this was U2, then yea, $140 makes sense as they're the biggest band on the planet. Are the Hip in that same price category? They never have been, and they certainly aren't at this stage of their career. Will Gord actually sing in his natural range on this tour? For the sake of everybody who bought tickets, I really hope he does. I still love this band, and nothing would make me happier than to see them regain their once legendary live prowess.

Re: Hip Tour in Jan/Feb 2015 - ikky99 - 10-25-2014

Considering approx. half of the seats are still available for the ACC show, could be conceivable that if the shows don't sell out, perhaps Stubhub would have tickets below face value on, say, the day of the shows?

I saw the Tour ADVERTISED on TV yesterday. Never saw that before.

Re: Hip Tour in Jan/Feb 2015 - fingernailsonhull - 10-28-2014

I remember seeing ads for In Violet Light on the TV back in 2002. Haven't seen anything since then though.

TV adds were in rotation in ON 3 weeks ago, guessing they will blitz during gift season and as curtain time approaches. Hoping scalpers will take a haircut on this tour.

Ya, the scalper prices are crazy. I'm kind of hoping the tour won't sell so well, which will force them to play smaller venues in the future and drop the arena shows for good.

Re: Hip Tour in Jan/Feb 2015 - The Bastard - 10-30-2014

Cant wait for this tour.

Couldn't make the original FC tour as I had broken my back.
My sister went & had the guys sign a picture for me (how the heck did she do that?)
I thought that was at Toad's Place in New Haven but I can't seem to find that performance in the history log on thehip.com.

Tried to get a couple people here in CT interested in the Hip as it sometimes seems I am the only hip fan here (along with my wife, who now loves the Hip also).
I looked at all the albums & settled on FC, bought a couple cheap copies on ebay & passed them out.

I always get a big stupid grin on my face as soon as Gord starts singing.
At that instant I feel fully content and I know that I am home.

The WATS tour was life changing for me. Now I will travel almost anywhere to see them, as long as I can spare the cash.
Caught them in Toronto (4th row) by myself during a business trip to Canada. Wow, couldn't believe how great they sounded.
At that time hadn't been to a show for a while. Been to at least 7 shows since then.

Maybe just a coincidence but right now, if you go to TM, the Montreal show is not on sale?

I feel guilty missing this tour.

but it's just not in the cards :-|

Re: Hip Tour in Jan/Feb 2015 - Gangrel - 11-03-2014

Yes, I would probably go if they came to Ottawa, but at this point, travelling elsewhere isn't a viable option........ I have other things I need to spend $500+ on.
