Operator, number, please: it's been so many years
Will she remember my old voice while I fight the tears?
Hello, hello there, is this Martha? this is old Tom Frost,
And I am calling long distance, don't worry 'bout the cost.
'Cause it's been forty years or more, now Martha please recall,
Meet me out for coffee, where we'll talk about it all.
And those were the days of roses, poetry and prose
And Martha all I had was you and all you had was me.
There was no tomorrows, we'd packed away our sorrows
And we saved them for a rainy day.
And I feel so much older now, and you're much older too,
How's your husband? and how's the kids? you know that I got married too?
Luck that you found someone to make you feel secure,
'Cause we were all so young and foolish, now we are mature.
And those were the days of roses, poetry and prose
And Martha all I had was you and all you had was me.
There was no tomorrows, we'd packed away our sorrows
And we saved them for a rainy day.
And I was always so impulsive, I guess that I still am,
And all that really mattered then was that I was a man.
I guess that our being together was never meant to be.
And Martha, Martha, I love you can't you see?
And those were the days of roses, poetry and prose
And Martha all I had was you and all you had was me.
There was no tomorrows, we'd packed away our sorrows
And we saved them for a rainy day.
And I remember quiet evenings trembling close to you...

Ahh, a fellow Tom Waits fan! Here's my all time fave:
9th & Hennepin (from the album Rain Dogs)
Well it's 9th and Hennepin
and all the donuts have names that
sound like prostitutes.
And the moon's teeth marks are
on the sky like a tarp thrown over all this.
And the broken umbrellas like dead
birds, and the stream comes out of the grill
like the whole goddamned town is ready to blow.
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
And everyone is behaving like dogs.
And the horses are coming down Violin Road
And Dutch is dead on his feet.
And the rooms all smell like diesel
And you take on the dreams of the ones who
have slept here.
And I'm lost in the window.
I hide on the stairway.
I hang in the curtain.
I sleep in your hat.
And no one brings anything small
into a bar around here.
They all started out with bad directions
And the girl behind the counter has a tattooed tear,
One for every year he's away, she said.
Such a crumbling beauty. But there's nothing
wrong with her that $100 won't fix.
She has that razor sadness that only gets worse.
With the clang and thunder of the Southern Pacific going by
As the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
Till you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin.
And you spill out over the side to anyone who'll listen.
And I've seen it all through the yellow windows
of the evening train.

life - brides of destruction
it seems so hard to stay so positive
i know how it feels
it just takes time somethings gotta give
don't let the negative
steal the blue out of the sky
don't leave it all behind
this is life this is it
it's not everything you want
it's everything you get believe it
it's not worth leaving
yea this is life once again
it's been knocking at your door
you ought to let it in
don't waste it ti's time you faced it
it seems like years
since you've known happiness
so down so long
so calm your fears
and you't get out of it
just hang on
so this is life this is it
it's not everything you want
it's everything you get believe it
it's not worth leaving
yea this is life once again
it's been knocking at your door
you ought to let it in
don't waste it it's time you faced it
why do you cry?
why do you cry?
steal the blue out of the sky
don't leave it behind
this is life once again
it's been knockin at your door
don't waste it it's time you faced it
this is life this is it
it's not everything you want
it's everything you get believing
it's not worth leaving
yea this is life once again
it's been knocking at your door
you ought to let it in don't waste it
it's time you faced it
this is life
this is life
don't let it pass you by,pass you by
it's time you faced it
it's time you turned around and faced it

Swingin' by The Headstones (RIP)
Thinking of swinging from a thread
Coiled tightly around my neck
Will an exposed pipe hold the weight of fears
Thinking of jumping from this spot
Well it's 52 stories 'til I hit the mark
Will the concrete waiting absorb the strain of the years
Bright lights are flashing, they hold me to my spot
I've got 2 seconds to get away or 52 until I drop
Well the whole thing is swinging it's a vicious and ugly curve
Electrocution where I lay
The taps are running and the radio plays
Will the water rolling absorb the strain of the shock
Shake that carcass, well that used to be your life
Before it consummates its love with an exposed pipe
Will the water rolling absolve you from all the things that you're not
If you really want to do it, do it slow
Real pain is the only way to go
You've got to savour the flavour
Self-destruction's a most attainable game
Pick yourself up, develop an addiction
Alcohol's a good one combined with sports, hunting, and fishing
Whole thing is vicious it's a most peculiar game
Shake that carcass, while it's hesitating
Before it consummates its love with the concrete waiting
Don't fool yourself into a quick and foolish end
If you're happy with your life
Roll over kiss your children and then your wife
And say
Jesus Christ I'm glad I never have thoughts like that
peace,
~Cordelia~

Black and Blue - Counting Crows
Fading everything to black and blue
You look a lot like you'd
Shatter in the blink of an eye
You keep sailing right on through
Every time you say you're learning
You just look a lot like me
Pale under the blistering sky
White and red
Black and blue
You’ve been waiting a long time
You’ve been waiting a long time
To fall down on your knees
Cut your hands
Cut yourself until you bleed
Fall asleep next to me
Wait for everyone to go away
And in a dimly lit
room where you’ve got nothing to hide
Say your goodbyes
Tell yourself we’ll read
a note that says
I’m sorry everyone
I’m tired of feeling nothing goodbye
Wash your face
Dry your eyes
Cause you’ve been waiting a long time
You’ve been waiting a long long time
To fall down on your knees
Cut your hands
Cut yourself until you bleed
But fall asleep next to me
And Have a dream I’m falling down
On my face
I Scrape my knees
I Scrape my hands until they bleed
Cause you're fast asleep next to me
Next to me 3X
one of the best from a band that doesn't seem to make mistakes... :thumb:

"All I Want Is You" - U2
You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want your story to remain untold
But all the promises we make from the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you'll give me a highway with no one on it
Treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night
You say you'll give me eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest
But all the promises we make from the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you want your love to work out right
To last with me through the night
You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold
All the promises we break from the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You
All I want is you
All I want is you
All I want is you

Indifference by PEARL JAM
I will light the match this morning so I won't be alone.
Watch as she lies silent for soon that will be gone.
Oh, I will stand arms outstretched. Pretend I'm free to roam.
Oh, I will make my way through one more day in hell.
How much difference does it make? (x2)
I will hold the candle till it burns up my arm.
Oh, I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired.
Oh, I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind.
Hey, I won't change direction and I won't change my mind.
How much difference does it make?
Mmm, how much difference does it make?
How much difference...
I'll swallow poison until I grow immune.
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room.
How much difference... (x2)
How much difference does it make? (x2)
Ooh... Ooh... Ooh...

~~---^^>> MEANSTREAK<>--->> THE TRAGICALLY HIP -->><<^^^~
Is it a mean streak
you'd swear you'd swear
we never seen a stranger round here
is it the way the dust clings to the air
but you'd swear you'd swear
Is it a mean streak
a desolation sound
a copy of desire oh nothing'z that far down
a mean streak on a western swing
on TV saying the damndest thing
Meanstreak
you'd swear you'd swear
we never seen a stranger round here
it's the way the dust clings to the air
after a strangers been there
you'd swear you'd swear
Is it a mean streak
to a certain degree
come whistlin down the crookedest street
a mean streak in the ghost state~
between the certain and the hestitating
a meanstreak
you'd swear you'd swear
we never seen a stranger round here
it's the way the dust clings to the air
after the stranger's been here
you'd swear you'd swear
was that you there?
that was you there
was that you there?
that was you there
The sssh sound of the bottom of their boots
on the tops of the grass
as their haywagon
rolled past
and I'd swear I'd swear
the way the dust clings to the air
after a strangers been here
I'd swear I'd swear
that that was you there

This is such a beautiful song...
One white duck - Jethro Tull
There's a haze on the skyline, to wish me on my way.
And there's a note on the telephone --- some roses on a
tray.
And the motorway's stretching right out to us all,
as I pull on my old wings --- one white duck
on your wall.
Isn't it just too damn real?
I'll catch a ride on your violin --- strung upon your bow.
And I'll float on your melody --- sing your chorus soft
and low.
There's a picture-view postcard to say that I called.
You can see from the fireplace, one white duck
on your wall.
Isn't it just too damn real?
So fly away Peter and fly away Paul --- from the
finger-tip ledge of contentment.
The long restless rustle of high-heeled boots calls.
And I'm probably bound to deceive you after all.
Something must be wrong with me and my brain ---
if I'm so patently unrewarding.
But my dreams are for dreaming and best left that
way --- and my zero to your power of ten equals
nothing at all.
There's no double-lock defense; there's no chain on my door.
I'm available for consultation,
But remember your way in is also my way out, and
love's four-letter word is no compensation.
Well, I'm the Black Ace dog-handler: I'm a waiter on
skates --- so don't you jump to your foreskin conclusion.
Because I'm up to my deaf ears in cold breakfast trays ---
to be cleared before I can dine on your sweet Sunday
lunch confusion.

Pearl Jam - Release
Father...ooh...oh...oh...
I see the world, feel the chill
Which way to go, windowsill
I see the world's on a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain
Ohh...ohh...ohh...ohh...
Oh, dear dad, can you see me now
I am myself, like you somehow
I'll ride the wave where it takes me
I'll hold the pain...Release me...
Ohh...ohh...ohh...ohh...
Oh, dear dad, can you see me now
I am myself, like you somehow
I'll wait up in the dark for you to speak to me
I'll open up...Release me...
Release me
Release me
Release me
Ohh...ohh...ohh...ohh...
.. not sure if it's the lyrics specifically that I love, or the emotion that Vedder sings it with, or both, but I love it.

this little known band from the UK is brilliant, and the following song is just so damn emotional...great song, great disc ("excuses for travellers)..great band....here we go...
MOJAVE 3 "IN LOVE WITH A VIEW"
I had a plan that was built on thinking too long
Canadian winters at home with your sisters
the romance was hard to ignore
I remember you searching
I thought you were searching, that's how i picked up the phone
Happy to hear you remember the view, so glad to assume it was fate
So I stood at the station with a plan and a pocket of poems
Heroically tragic, bearded and blind with obsession
I'm a car without hope too close to the ditch to go far
I showed you my field, said this is my field
but you weren't impressed
You said why are we here? your motives aren't clear
this room with a view and so much of you...
..is so far from here
Oh my heart..it just fell apart..and I wished I could show you
the same view of you by the window..and me just feeling so fine
Yeah, and me just feeling so fine...me just feeling fine...

"Every You Every Me"
Placebo
Sucker love is heaven sent.
You pucker up, our passion's spent.
My hearts a tart, your body's rent.
My body's broken, yours is bent.
Carve your name into my arm.
Instead of stressed, I lie here charmed.
Cuz there's nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Sucker love, a box I choose.
No other box I choose to use.
Another love I would abuse,
No circumstances could excuse.
In the shape of things to come.
Too much poison come undone.
Cuz there's nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
Sucker love is known to swing.
Prone to cling and waste these things.
Pucker up for heavens sake.
There's never been so much at stake.
I serve my head up on a plate.
It's only comfort, calling late.
Cuz there's nothing else to do,
Every me and every you.
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
Like the naked leads the blind.
I know I'm selfish, I'm unkind.
Sucker love I always find,
Someone to bruise and leave behind.
All alone in space and time.
There's nothing here but what here's mine.
Something borrowed, something blue.
Every me and every you.
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he
Every me and every you,
Every Me...he [x4]
