CanuckCourage Wrote:Anyone remember when Clint Malarchuk took a skate to the Jugular vein in 89 ? I found this pic in one of my old sports mags I saved from way back when , I have no scanner so I took a pic with the webcam . He was ok and was back in the playoffs, but he wore a neck gaurd the rest of his career.
I kind of remember that, but from seeing the pic now.... Why isn't anyone helping him?

That was some seriously disturbing footage... I still can't watch it. I remember the photos, post-op, in the paper. The scar was equally as scary.
And the reason there not helping him is because he's still in the crease. Duh... Once he's out of the blue paint, he's fair game.

Is this some sort of veiled shot at the Leafs' "hemorrhaging" Cup chances?
:nooooo
Seriously though, I remember the Malarchuk thing all too well, but (while we're on the topic of bloodletting) does anyone else remember the night Borje Salming had his face stepped on in Detroit? For those too young to remember (unfortunately, I remember watching it live):
Quote:Borje Salming was so appreciative of what Finley did one horrible night in the mid-to-late '80s, he wrote about it with Gerhard Karlsson in his book, "Blood, Sweat and Hockey." Playing for Toronto at the Joe, the Hall of Fame defenseman wound up at the bottom of a goal-mouth scramble. Wings forward Gerard Gallant was pushed from behind.
"His skate came down on my face," Salming wrote. "The cold steel sliced the skin above my right eye, then cut deeply into my nose and along the side of my face. . . . This required the expert hand of a specialist. I was lucky to fall under the care of Dr. John Finley."
Salming was rushed to the hospital. Finley applied pressure to the wound the whole way. He couldn't control the bleeding.
Finley began stitching at about 11 p.m. After what seemed like forever, Salming asked, "Almost done?"
"Young man," Finley said, "we've just left second base."
When Finley finished at about 2 a.m., Salming had some 300 stitches crisscrossing his forehead, past his eye, across his nose, back under his eye, down his cheek and to the corner of his mouth. In the morning, he took off his bandage and looked in the mirror.
"Oh, my God," he stammered. "Am I going to look like this for the rest of my life?"
Salming struggled with his appearance for a long time. But, he wrote, "the red snake of a scar became smaller and smaller, until it nearly disappeared altogether. Dr. Finley, quite simply, had done wonderful work."

Ditto !!!!! Wooohooo !!! Sweet !!! Screaming outside my window and it's aaaawesome !!! Gotta get up in 5 hours and I don't care , i'm watching the replay of that goal for at least another 30 minutes . You could see it sit there , it seemed like time stood still and then Gelinas knocked it in , he scored the 7th game winner against the Nucks , and now eliminates Detroit , AWESOME !!! May Stanley come home !!

I think I must drink the six pack of Stroh's Beer I saved when the brewery shut down here and drive my Ford/GM/Chrysler into the Detroit River to drown out the large cheer I just heard come from all of Canada.
Does everyone in The Great White North despise the New York Yankees of the NHL for being so good the past decade? (I must say that the younger, hungrier Flames made the Wings look like the old men they have become).
After the Wings fire Lewis and cut half of their payroll after the lockout, a younger more vibrant Wings team will emerge to torment all of Canada for another decade to come!!

Awwwwww YEAH!!!! THat was fanbloodytastic!!! My heart sank with the thought of another game 6 OT loss to send it back to Detroit, but the Flames had other plans. Way to go Flames!!! The city erupted when that went in last night. I've never seen anything like that before. Flames jerseys, shirts and flags everywhere. I went down to 17th ave to check things out after the game and it was pure and utter madness. High fives for everyone in site, even the cops who were everywhere. More and more people just kept coming down there. Unreal.
Bring on the western confrence finals baby!!
WooooooooHooooooo!! :jump :jump
