Manny Ramirez is a phenom. He's simply one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball. Period.

I would have to agree that Manny will be included in the group of "greatest hitters in the history of baseball" when all is said and done. Although his career BA is only 74th all-time (3000 minimum PA), he is 8th all-time in career SLG, 6th all-time in career OBP, 20th all-time in career RBI, and 17th all-time in career HR (and he'll definitely climb many spots in the last two categories before he's done).
But in my opinion, there is another active player who is well on his way to being even greater than Manny, and who I'll bet will be by end of his career.
I'll give you one guess at who I'm thinking of?

A Rod will probably end up posting higher career RBI + HR totals than either Manny or Albert, but his averages (SLG / BA / OBP) won't touch Manny's and Albert's, imo....

Last time I checked, Esthete was getting semi-smoked in his matchup, while I'm see-sawing back and forth for that coveted 7th place spot :nooooo :roll: :roll:

Manny is not paying me, no. :lol: I just get a kick out of all the hate the guy gets from douchebag fans all the time. :what Joe Morgan, one of the most respected baseball men in the world, and a former Red (so he's probably one of your favourites), happens to agree with me about Manny's hitting ability. Or I agree with him. Or....I don't know how that goes. :thumb:

I fought tooth and nail until I was officially out of title contention. Once I lose in the playoffs, I consider my season to be completely over. It's all or nothing for me.
downie_24: what are you talking about? This is no time to give up the ghost! I just looked, and you aren't close to getting what I call "smoked". In the 9 categories you are losing, you're behind by only 3 HR, 3 Runs, 9 hits, 7 RBI, 2 SB, 6 measly BA points, 11 WHIP points, and you are tied in saves. And you still have 4 days of games!!!
You gotta believe you still have a shot....I've seen far crazier things happen. Think about it --making a comeback in the Runs and BA categories is VERY do-able for you. That could bring your matchup score to 6-4. That leaves one less-doable but still very feasible comeback in either the WHIP, RBI, or HR categories, to tie it up 5-5, and pulling out a win in the Save category gives you the championship! C'mon, Pete! Rally them Pistols!!! Get Willy Taveras in your lineup! He could make up the steals deficit in one game! Load your pitching roster with some solid RPs who have good WHIP ratios. Pick up some top-of-the order hitters with good OBPs who play for teams that score runs! GET CREATIVE! [/peptalk]

Manny rakes. There ain't no gettin around it, the guy can flat-out mash.
I certainly loved Joe Morgan as a player. And he'll always hold a spot in my heart as a crucial cog in the Big Red Machine. He was one of those types of players that had everything you want in a middle infielder, and nothing that you don't.
But as a commentator and analyst, he has been getting worse and worse and I can hardly even listen to the guy anymore. He is forever the "irrational contrarian", he completely overstates the obvious with maddening repetition, he is grossly condescending, he treats his audience like dunces, and there are times when when he is completely nonsensical and makes me wonder if he isn't going insane. I respect his ability, and I respected his wisdom up to a point in time, but I really think they guy gets more delusional every day.
He's is right about Manny, though......

:lol: I agree with everything you said. I'm surprised he's so high on Manny, I always thought Joe was a fan of those "character" guys, and stats don't really matter much when judging a baseball player. He was certainly pretty outspoken about that sentiment when the book Money Ball came out

Agreed to all of the above,
my guess is the baseball writers will pick Webb coz he has more wins and he pitches for a marginally better team. I think if there was an award for 2nd half gamer and class act, it would be Sabathia's, hands down.

As you know, I'm an Indians fan. I wouldn't be upset if Halladay won the Cy Young, though. Lee and Halladay have both had tremendous seasons and BOTH of them are deserving of the award. I don't think Halladay winning would be a sham in the least.
Lincecum does deserve the NL award for sure. I don't think he'll get it. He is better in every major category than Webb, other than wins. If Webb wins the Cy Young, that will be the true injustice and that will make the award a true sham.
