it very well could be...

LAME I can't see a Leafs fan EVER rooting wholeheartedly for another team just to have a Canadian team win it. Most fans want "thier" team to win it.

Once 'their' team is out, most people don't just shut off the tv until the next season. They continue to watch with varying levels of interest and almost everyone picks a team they want to win, some people with more fervor than others. Some people pick the underdog or a surprising team or a gritty team or a flashy team or a team with a certain player or whatever.
Seems like a Canadian rooting for a Canadian team is as good a reason as any, especially considering how grateful many of us Canadian fans are that we still havent lost our teams altogether. Many of us already have lost our teams (Winnipeg and Quebec City)to the ravenous US money pit. Other cities like Edmonton and Calgary came within a whisker.
Of course, I could never *whole-heartedly* cheer for any team other than my Oilers, not even close. BUT, I can still select a team to cheer for in any given year when we are out. I even cheered for the Flames (the much-hated archnemesis,) but without that 'edge-of-yer-seat-I-sure-hope-they-win' feeling. It was still like "whatever, it isnt the Oilers". But they are also an Alberta team, so that was a good enough reason. Why not a Canadian team then? I cant imagine a sportsworld where all the other teams in a league other than yours are liked/disliked exactly equally. That just isnt right.
Now, many Flames fans are rooting for the Oilers. That's great. Many are rooting against them. That's great too. But all of us have matured as sports fans I think and appreciate our own teams that much more.

It ANY Buffalo sports fan. We love to suffer and can't appreciate the good years w/out bitchibng about the bad

Now start the hate reply's. I can hear 'em coming already.

And for what it's worth. Win or Lose tonight, I'm still a Sabres fan. Always will be.

God I hope the cup comes back to Canada. I dont even like the Oilers but it would be better than some crappy Yankee team winning it. See I can say that knowing there are more true hockey fans in my town of 8 thousand than in the entire USA. So even if you do collect all 6 of the other hockey fans in your area to come kick my ass I'm just not that worried. Go Oilers! (my new favorite team).

"than some crappy Yankee team"

..only above the Mason Dixon Line..
Below that you can call them Hillbilly Rednecks...

Go back a couple of pages on this thread. The "ravenous US money pit" as you put it, that stole the Canadian teams were sold by CANADIAN OWNERS to cash in on American greed as I stated before.

I agree with everything you said. It made me sick to see the Lightning win a few years ago, they couldn't even sell out their own building during the final series. That's beyond pathetic. It was disgraceful.

- tigerthelion - 05-31-2006

I guess Lindy Ruff isn't whining about the OT powerplay HIS TEAM received is he?

So I see Brian Mccabe signed a five year deal with the Leafs supposedly worth between 5.5 to 6 million a year. I thought NHL salaries were going down? 6 mill for a streaky, primarily offensive defenseman? 7.8 million for Richards?

- The Darkest Canuck - 05-31-2006

"stupid is as stupid does"

they're both top notch players, and both very important pieces of their teams' puzzles...the only way the Leafs could afford to let McCabe go was if they signed Redden IMO.

I watched game 6 and 7 of the finals that year in Calgary in a bar called Shanks. The city was electric as anyone in Edmonton knows from whats happening there now. If you weren't within 2 blocks of the Tampa arena you would not have known anything was going on. Don't get me wrong, there are some real good hockey markets in the States. I actually like the Sabres. I was digging at Corpse for a response. That being said, I would like to see the Oilers win it because it is only a 3 hour drive from here and it would be a nice excuse to skip work and go to a parade. As long as there isn't any clowns. Hate those creepy fuckers. :x

Just a horrible deal (bookmark this now, or put it in your notebook, or whatever it is you do with my posts, stalkergunn).

WAY too much money - but the killer is the no trade clause, which means the next GM can't clean up the mess.

Now I'm anticipating the 5 year $25 million extension for Belfour.

- Douglas - 05-31-2006

What a stupid deal. Good luck bringing in free agents now with the 20 grand you've got left over. Poor, poor Leaf fans. Lots of room left on my North Battleford North Stars band wagon. I think Belak and Corey Shwab played here.

- The Darkest Canuck - 05-31-2006

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, you said Belak!

- Douglas - 05-31-2006

If you have ever been to the Battlefords you'd realize that Belak is about as good as it gets. Yup Wade Belak and a Crypto scare. One great city.

and let the achring wrecking ball proclaim
I..... hate ......Battlefords

- kleh - 05-31-2006

cant wait until tomorrow, game 7's are always so great,

in other news Chris Chelios is coming back for at least one more year, no word yet on stevie Y

- The Darkest Canuck - 06-01-2006

i love Yzerman, he's everything a hockey player should be, and then some!
