What about recording audio? Is this allowed tonight?

I haven't heard anything about audio either.
My first impression when I heard no video is that they might drop a new track that they don't want out to the public yet. That would be well worth not having a video of the show for me!

You make a very good point Trevor. Robbie said in Pittsburgh after the show that they were asked not to play any more news songs because it'll ruin the whole new album experience. If we've heard all the songs, then there's nothing really to look forward to like a kid does on Christmas morning.

For us the true die hards who bought tickets from the fan club; they might just play a couple other new ones hence the asking for no recording gear. That would be freaking sweet!

If it's because of new songs... then just ask us not to release it until they are ready. (ie. the new album gets released). The Commodore show was recorded by multiple sources, but it's going to sit on a shelf until The Hip say it's OK to release it.

Either way, it's their prerogative. We're pretty spoiled by their willingnes to let us tape and distribute, so although it's disappointing, MAv has already said gear is allowed at Fort York....

For me it wouldn't get any better than a mix of songs we've never heard and ones we haven't heard in many years. But really, they could play whatever the hell they want and I'd have an awesome time.

Just out of curiousity, is there a tentative date for a the new release?
Brad

ps only 5.5hrs 'til the door open...... 6.5 'till I'm sitting in my seat!!!!!! I sure hope they do play some newer stuff tonight

Yea, basically, the no video is because we'll be taping it

It's a low key affair in a super venue - though I haven't been there, I have heard about it.

As far as taping goes, I have not been told that taping is NOT allowed, though, as with all shows this summer, we would ask that it not be released until the fall.

This is a hard one, as I know Vancouver and Sasquatch are sitting ont he shelf just waiting for the go ahead, but then I downloaded the Pittsburg show yesterday . . . I know all I can do is ask not to distribute the new material until the fall, but that is what the wishes of the band are. Once the album has been released, then all is cool.

See ya'll in Belleville tonight!

MAv.

Does the band not want any of the summer shows not released? I am sure that they are aware that the people sharing this stuff will go out and be the first to buy the new album anyway...

...of course there might be some legalities behind everything that I am unfamiliar with.

Any guesses on tonight's opening song????

The Weakerthans go on at 8 and I'm guessing we'll see the hip at 9 and it'll go to approx. 11. 6 hrs 3 min and counting....

seems strange that we were able to film the concert that they released on dvd.whats special about this show?
Perhaps we weren't supposed to be able to film the Toronto DVD concert, but security didn't get the memo...

I got in and filmed the Toronto DVD show when security radioed in to Tristan and Ricky.
As soon as they gave the green light, venue security must have told the other venue security.

Obviously disappointed we can't film this one but I'm still very grateful that we can do the other shows.

I do believe we should hold off spreading these shows via BitTorrent, FTp, etc. until the new album is out.

Pittsburgh is off the tracker...

This is a hard one,
MAv.
OK, but since the three new songs we have already heard are available from Sasquatch and from Pittsburgh, how about this:
1. We only release shows where no other new songs are played
2. We could also not distribute the new songs - just the rest of the show, because there are some damn good gems being played.

- chris - 06-21-2006

Good ideas Dana! I've banned the Pittsburgh torrent for now... Seeing as how more than 100 people have already downloaded it, I think it should be allowed to continue; and for all future recordings we'll go with what Dana suggested - or something that the band suggests.

I think the opening song tonight will be Lonely end of the Rink. Anybody care to disagree with me?
