All the freakin' awesome new albums that just came out not that long ago:

Pearl Jam - Self Titled
RHCP - Stadium Arcadium
Gomez - How We Operate
Tool - 10,000 Days

Although PJ is the heaviest in rotation out of the bunch...I mix in the other albums to 'cleanse my palate' if you will

those 4 are on my list as well as the new springsteen......but it's the RHCP that's getting the most play the last couple of days

These are all on heavy rotation as well as:

Built to Spill - You in Reverse (just discovered these guys, kinda like a mix between Modest Mouse and Wilco)
The Black Keys - Chulahoma (great Blues rock)
and
Frank Black - Fast man/Raiderman

Too much great stuff out there right now. My head's going to explode.

and how could i forget wolfmother???? fucking unreal, that the best albums of the year(let's face it..they'll be on most lists) all came out within a 2 week period..and ben harper not that long ago either

Well, I think I'm definitely in the minority here with regard to the new Pearl Jam. I like it, but I'm not overwhelmed like everyone else seems to be. I actually prefer Riot Act by a mile. Maybe I'm getting too old.

BTW, I love this thread - so many ideas for new music to check out, with the new Gomez and Built to Spill leading the charge.

Well after downloading Peral Jam (Still waiting on my post from pj.com, so it was an official dl) I went through the back catalogue as well, and I have to agree with Riot Act...

EP from Bellowhead (british folk/jazz/god knows!) has been getting a fair few plays too

Sherpahigh... Built to Spill is excellent, nice pick-up (as to are Modest Mouse and Wilco, of course).

I don't know how far you've got into the catelogue, but may I suggest "Keep it like a secret" and "There's nothing wrong with love", my two faves by them.

"Perfect from now on", made btwn those two albums, is also critically lauded, but its a little too unpoppy and depressing for me.

And if you have got that deep into the catelogue, feel free to disregard and form your own opinions

You in Reverse is my first exposure to these guys. I'll definitly be checking out more now though. I've heard really good things about Perfect from Now On and Keep It Like A Secret. I'm sure I'll check them all out though. Thanks for the tips. :thumb:

Still can't get enough of the Gomez or RHCP...Notice is a perfect opener for the Gomez cd..really sets the stage for what's to come...and the peppers cd has so much to offer..great stuff..apart from that, i've cooled down a bit on the pearl jam for now, and like i posted earlier..the more i listen to the new ben harper, the more i like his other stuff better...
so..the five that are kickin my ass..

Seeing as this seems to be the place to discover "New Music" I thought I would pass along a website for everyone to check out. It's called Project Opus <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.projectopus.com">www.projectopus.com</a><!-- w --> . It is website devoted to independant music, where bands can post their music and fans can come and listen, and pay per track if they like the song enough. From what I can tell, the website is based out of the Vancouver area as there are a ton of acts listed from the Left Coast.

Check it out if you get a chance, there is some good undiscovered music on there....there is some rather crappy stuff there too, but that's all in the fun of the journey.

BTW, when you go, have a listen to my cousin Rob's band, The Bush Pilots. They are actually the featured artist this month and have their first album up there to listen to, as well as an on-line interview. After a few tracks it won't take long to tell that they are heavily influenced by Neil Young, Springsteen and Steve Earle...so if you like those artists you might dig some of their tunes as well.

Ice Cube-Laugh Now Cry Later: brand new shit from one of the all-time greats, and it's killer! not a bad cut on the entire 20 track disc!

Wolfmother-s/t: i kinda slept on them for a bit, but i gave em a chance, and this album is great.

Pearl Jam-s/t: another amazing album from the boys, would we expect anything less?

Red Hot Chili Peppers-Stadium Arcadium: CAN'T STOP ADDICTED TO THE CHILI'S (pardon the terrible pun)

and for the 5th...hmmmm

Tool-10,000 Days: i just heard the synchronized version of 10,000 Days (it has Wings, and Viginti Trees playing at the same time, to create one masterful song, it's quite interesting) and i have a new found appreciation for the album now
