A noteworthy Hip dream... - Billy - 12-07-2005

the last dream before I woke up was a Hip dream.

I had won a contest where I got to pick 3 songs for the Hip's show that night. I was in a hotel room, and on a piece of hotel stationary, I wrote:

Josephine
Fully

and then the whole band walked in. I was nervous to meet them, and got to shake all their hands. Then Gord Sinclair said, "You're 3rd song". I thought for a bit and in a hurry wrote down:

Vapour Trails

He looked at it and said, "Yeah, I think those are doable".

Next thing I'm in an arena and the Hip are walking on stage. They start playing a song (can't remember which one), only instead of Bobby on stage, it's an old highschool buddy of mine, and his guitar isn't working. The band has already kicked in to the song (can't remember which one) and poor old Rob Kiel can't figure out what the heck to do. Finally, near the end of the song, a guitar tech. comes over and gives him a guitar that actually works.

Next thing, Jodie Foster stroles out on stage and starts playing some real good guitar. The band joins her and they're playing "New Years Day" by U2. I am almost shitting my panst by now and attempt to let out a whistle, but nothing happens. The band with Jodie sound fantastic. The song finishes and the band takes a break.

I look around and I spy Gord Downie sitting by himself. I go over to him and start up a coversation. "This is the 19th Hip show I have seen, and I gotta say that is the coolest Hip moment I have seen on stage". (Jodie Foster on guitar and New Years Day). I ask him how they managed to get her to join them and he said it took a lot of coaxing.

I woke up.

Do dreams ever make sense?

- lilbones - 12-07-2005

No, they don't.
I love completely random dreams like that, with random guest appearences.

- sean.bonner - 12-07-2005

I always have crazy dreams where I'm myself, but someone else...
Make sense?

- mark - 12-07-2005

you could pick 3 songs and you chose those three?

just kidding...

dreams can be fucked up

- sean.bonner - 12-07-2005

If this contest/dream was true, what three would you pick? For me, it would change almost daily, but today it would be:
1. The Last Of The Unplucked Gems
2. Are We Family
3. Looking For A Place To Happen
But I would also love for Nautical to be played, because, lets face it, Jodie Foster playing Nautical!??!? Wow, she'd be playing the role of Susan AND the guitar. I would be in awe.

Great dream! I'm wonderin what u were up to last night to get that jumble of images.
Strange thing about you posting that is that i had a hip dream last night too. I was in a landromat in some seedy neighbourhood and then the boys all rushed in with a crew and started setting up for a show right in the laundromat. i don't recall them actually playing anything though, so i couldn't give you a setlist. Sweet dream. Those are awesome. I just watched Contact again the other evening, and when it was over, I couldn't stop thinking how much I love Jodie Foster. She's an incredible actress and she's cute as a button, too.

I haven't had a Hip dream, but when I was a teenager I had this incredibly lucid dream featuring Led Zeppelin, where I suddenly found myself in the auditorium of this decrepit, defunct old country schoolhouse near my childhood home, and I'm jamming onstage with Page, Plant, Jones, and Bonham, and no audience. The reason I'll always remember it is because of this cool occurrence:

The dream was in black and white, and big shafts of sunlight were streaming through a bank of windows along one side of the otherwise unlit auditorium, illuminating the dust in the air, and projecting huge columns of light on the hardwood floor. We had started tearing through a version of The Song Remains the Same, page hoisitng the doubleneck, Plant swinging his blond locks around amidst his signature gyrations, when we arried at te part of the song where the fast, furious intro climaxes with the three deliberate strums where Plant begins singing "I-I-I-I-I-I-I had a dream" and right on that last strum, the dream *bursts* from b&w into color.

I think I awoke to find that I had soiled myself .....

Speaking of rock star dreams, I remember back in my "Cult days" when I had a dream me and Ian Astebury were drinving in an 18 wheeler (he was driving) and we were hauling a load of handguns somewhere. I woke up and felt so great that I was hanging out with someone I idolized (back in the day, remember) and just shootin' the shit.

hahaha wow that sounds pretty intense, that would make for a pretty cool music video

I remember having a Hip dream once where I got asked to drum for Johnny who was sick or something and we were playing at my old high school and I got to choose the setlist. Man, it was an incredible dream. I would die a happy man if I ever got to play with the Hip.

- emperor penguin - 12-07-2005

I had a hip dream once, where the hip played my local arena that holds about 400 people. In my dream there was about 1000 people packed in there and I was sitting on stage watching from behind.

- arseface88 - 12-07-2005

Once, I had a hip dream where I heard two new Hip songs. My brain actually synthesized new Hip music! Words can't express my rage at being woke up.

Man, I love the Cult! Ian Astbury is so cool.
