Top Five Albums - chicagoblackhawks77 - 10-04-2004

Here's mine:

1). Phantom
2). Up to Here
3). Fully
4). Road Apples
5). IBE (?)

What about you guys?

- direwolf74 - 10-04-2004

1. IBE
2. PP
3. DFN
4. IVL
5. RA

- Killer Whale Tank - 10-04-2004

1. Day for Night
2. In Between Evolution
3. Road Apples
4. Live Between Us
5. Fully Completely

But for my money 1 & 2 are a significant cut above the remaining three.

The fifth choice was the hardest, for me. PP could have been there instead.

I don't own Music@Work or Henhouse and I haven't even heard Road Apples but my ranking goes as follows:

1 Live Between Us
2 Fully Completely
3 Phantom Power
4 Day For Night
5 In Violet Light
6 Up to Here
7 In Between Evolution

You've never heard Road Apples? Try to get it ASAP if you can. I know I'm not alone when I say that it is their finest. I'm sure when you've had the opportunity to give it a listen, you'll agree...

Your friend is indeed crazy. Road Apples is an absolute gem from start to finish. Up to Here was the album that first got me interested in the band, but it was Road Apples that turned me into a hardcore Hip fanatic. I played it so much that I wore out not one, but TWO cassette copies before I eventually bought it on CD. I think they've made better records since then (hence it's #5 spot on my list), but RA will always have a soft spot in my heart as the album that solidified my belief that they were the greatest rock band on the freakin' planet.

- JackSlim - 10-04-2004

5. Trouble at the Henhouse

4. Fully Completely

3. In Between Evolution

2. Up to Here

1. Phantom Power

Road Apples is the only Hip album I don't play through on a regular basis. Something about it just doesn't sit right with me.

Phantom Power wins because it is without flaw beginning to end. It may not peak as high as some of the others but it is constant and unwavering in its delivery.

And also, I was only counting studio albums.

Brazle, I LOVE IT! Getting both of Gord's solos in there! Including solo, I guess I'll say:

1. Day For Night
2. Up To Here
3. Road Apples
4. In Between Evolution
5. Coke Machine Glow

The newer music is probably better in the overall musicianship and delivery but I just have a soft spot for the early ones like UTH and Road Apples. The bluesy rock of these two is just the early days of the band jamming out. Nothing fancy, no frills, just blues rock! As for Day for Night, well all I can say is that it is as close to perfection as I've heard on an album. The mood and atmosphere of the record is astonishing to me. The vocal delivery on songs like "So Hard Done By" and "Fire In the Hole" among others is brilliant. The guitar work on the album, particularly the riffs of "IOD", "Fire In the Hole", "Yawning or Snarling", "An Inch An Hour" is peerless.

I like both Gord's solo albums but not enough to rate either of them number 1. CMG is very diverse though and does have some brilliant melodies and lyrics. "Chancellor" is among my favourite songs in all of music, "Trick Rider" is great and the whole album other than the Atom Egoyan guitar song is very good.

So cool to hear everyone's opinions. Don't know who said it, but Phantom is definitely flawless!
