ticket sales - eatmecompletely - 10-20-2014

i went on line this morning
was wondering how many tickets the hip have sold so far

Thanks to the map, you can see how many tickets left
it looks like acc barely sold 50% and those are just the seats availible for purchase

NYC is half sold

If sales are this bad, do you think they would cancel the tour?

Re: ticket sales - sean.bonner - 10-20-2014

I feel like there is a rush when tickets go on sale, and then an increase right before the show as well.

Also, these will be on sale over the Christmas Shopping Season, which I would say also bodes well.

Re: ticket sales - eatmecompletely - 10-20-2014

i guess but it seems strange they cant sell out acc on the same day it goes on sale !
maybe they priced themselves out of the market
or gord screemed himself out of the market

Re: ticket sales - edgoffin - 10-20-2014

I think you get the rush of die hard fans in the early set of sales, and then everyone else buys tickets as the show approaches and there is some more general marketing. I think the days of an ACC sellout on day #1 are behind The Hip. In fact, maybe they'd be better suited to multiple days in smaller venues vs. an arena in some cities. In Ottawa, three nights at the NAC was way better than one night in the NHL rink.

Plus, tickets are expensive. I bought a pair to go to Burlington VT, which was about $150 in a smaller venue. Could not resists and bought a pair for Kingston, $150/per. I don't question the $75, but the $150 is pushing my limit for a show.

Re: ticket sales - bstrauss24 - 10-20-2014

My thoughts (concerns) on the Buffalo arena show, which they have not played since 2000.

*The last 2 Buffalo shows have been outdoor festival types in the summer for around 60 bucks, where people just want to party and have fun in great weather.
*The prices are a HUGE concern for the arena. I know several that tried for other cities just for the prices.
*While the band has sold a large number of tickets to multiple night stands at Artpark or Town Ballroom, it is hard to imagine they can match those numbers for one show. So many people go to multiple night shows!
*The last two times they played Buffalo, there were no nearby Canadian shows. Now there are several, which makes me wonder if fans will bother coming.

Time will tell!

Re: ticket sales - eatmecompletely - 10-20-2014

I think this might be there last big arena shows
looks like they are getting primed for the casino rama circuit

Re: ticket sales - Rye - 10-20-2014

I was surprised they are trying arenas again with how poor the sales were for most of the 2013 Canadian shows. Hopefully this sends a strong message to the band that they are playing venues that are too big and tickets are too expensive.

Agreed. Their arena days are behind them in my opinion, and the ticket prices are just not affordable for a lot of people, including myself. It's really too bad, because as I mentioned in another thread, this will be the first Hip tour I've ever skipped. If they lowered the price and did multiple nights in small theatres instead of 1 night in a hockey rink, I'd probably consider going, even despite Gord's screaming.

Re: ticket sales - Escape@Hand - 10-20-2014

Yep, the ticket prices gave me pause as well, and I'm only going to one show on this tour, whereas the last 3 tours I've gone to multiple shows. I'm hoping they stop playing arenas and move to more intimate venues, as well, on their subsequent tours.

Re: ticket sales - tonyd - 10-20-2014

i self suckered myself into purchasing both Chicago shows and the acc.

Re: ticket sales - edgoffin - 10-21-2014

I'm sort of at the "commitment level" now where I'm likely going no matter what the price. I've seen at least a show from every tour since UTH, and now I'm at the stage where I start thinking "this could be the last tour" for these guy.

I was surprised when I saw the venues for this tour and the prices. I really thought it would be more of a theatre setting. I'm intrigued by the idea of touring an older album (though I like hearing new material and seeing a band move forward) but I'm not sure if you're gaining new fans. Bottom line is $300 for a pair of seats is a lot for an arena show, unless you're a "classic act" on the road. I'd guess $50 or so is more that range where a casual fan will pick up a ticket for an arena show.

I'm gambling that it's a "evening with" type show -- first set FC, and then second set a mix of songs.....

Looks like Vermont sold out, though that's 1,000 seat theatre and close enough for eastern Ontario/western Quebec that it's a great place to catch them in a non-arena setting. Kingston, I had my pick of good tickets through to the close of the presale.

Re: ticket sales - WesleyC. - 10-22-2014

I grabbed Windsor and London shows. Tickets were expensive but then again I paid $250 for VIP at Ivor Wynne show and Even paid $250 for level 500 at the skydome for Grey Cup 2 years ago. Leaf tickets are in the low $300 range for anything even half decent so $150 for The Hip with guaranteed 20 to 25 great songs, is not really to much to ask. I mean look at half of the old rockers charging a ton of dough eg. Black Sabbath recently and Fleetood Mac. Sure you get some half decent music and its all fine and dandy but its NOT the Hip. The Hip are still cheap by the standard rock and roll price for bands that have as many hits and have been around as long as they have. Then again I did go see 54/40 last weekend for $12.

Re: ticket sales - ashtrayrock - 11-04-2014

imo ticket sales will pick up speed at all venues as we get closer to the show date

take a look at the 2 Who shows at the acc. those shows are a year away. is the promoter worried that so many seats are open right now? NOPE !

Re: ticket sales - johnwblake - 11-04-2014

Has anyone received their pre-sale tickets for Oshawa yet?

you cant compare the who to the hip

the fact they can barely sell the acc is a bad sign
