How, then, can it be that the populace would rather suspend a celebration of Canadian popular art & culture (Junos) in favor of a facile, brainless American 'reality television' show?

It was all about money for CTV!
They could get more money from advertisers.

But you are sadly right [except in FRENCH Canada , which is 1 quarter of our population]! French Canada , cares about their own FRENCH CANADIAN culture , history and stars. They have their own star system , movies , books , music all in , FRENCH.

Sadly , most of English Canada couldn't give a dam about Canadian history , music , movies and stars or that is what we are told to believe.

READ some posts at this site from Canadians to prove my point.

Most of the rest of this country UNFAIRLY hates the CBC T.V. station and they watch U.S. , T.V. networks because they think that it is better , even though Canada is only second to the U.S. in world wide T.V. program , sales.

Some hate our own football league the CFL because it is not the NFL , even though the NFL is only played in 1 country , as the CFL is.

Even though the CFL is far more popular than the NFL in Canada.

History + our war history = boring
Music = boring
Football = bush league

OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IS OUR MEDIA , that ignores our stars , puts down any thing that is Canadian. Treats are history , sports and art as second class. cratch:

Case in point : The JUNO AWARDS! Love or hate NELLY FUR. She is the world's biggest female pop star in the world right now. She has won a GRAMMY , a BRIT AWARD and a WORLD MUSIC AWARD this year , and how many people even knew about that?

We unfairly compare ourselves to a country that has BILLIONS in production money , ad money , and a buyer/watcher base of 300 million+ people.

Canada only has 32 million people. :thumb:

ON THE OTHER HAND ; AMERICA goes go way over board with it's music , history and art. Some times giving it allot more credit than it deserves. :mrgreen:

Perhaps, but for the wrong reasons. I'm embarassed every year when the Juno's roll around. Have they ever chosen a host who had little or no success outside of Canada?

So, so far the Junos have Jack Soul saying "shit" and having "black ass" censored and K-OS trashing his guitar. This could be a remotely interesting night.
