Jenna showed me a story about that last night. We had quite the chuckle, partly because of Boston's overreation, and partly because we both love ATHF. The article explained that the ATHF was a cartoon the featured "a milkshake, a box of fries and a meatball". Hilarious.
Cartoon Network commissioned these "promotional devices" in cities all over the country, yet Boston was the only city to freak out. Christ.
How would you like to live in a city where entire public safety departments have no clue what to make of an ATHF character flipping them off?
Look! What the f is that? Thats Cliffs cheque from the government for being crazy. We must steal and blow it.

Oh something tells me they got their money's worth with this one. This little stunt could go down as one of the best stealth marketing moves in history...well worth a $2 million fine.
The only thing that beats this is that GM marketing idea of having Oprah "give away" all of those Pontiac G6's to that group of teachers in her audience. I'm not sure what Pontiac ended up paying for that but whatever it was, it was worth it. Just about every single person in North America could tell you what car Oprah gave away that day.

CBC gets the booby prize for its use of the words "bomb hoax" in its headline, which is clearly libelous as it implies a deliberate attempt on Turner's part to mislead and frighten the public into believing that these things were bombs:

I don't much care that it's a clear libel (although the CBC should), but it's plainly inaccurate.
I swear, the quality of writing in Canadian journalism sinks lower by the week. Do these jackasses not know the meaning of English words?
The only reason the Turner chickenshits have settled this is to make it go away, as they fear the War On Terra backlash that right-wing media such as Fox will unleash. It should be clear to anyone brighter than a coal nugget in a black cat's colon, or the Boston PD, that the fault lies with the Boston PD (Paranoid Doofi) for their bizarre and unaccountable overreaction.

I was actually in Boston last week when this all went down. The afternoon of the scare I was having lunch at the SeaPort World Trade Center. Where I was sitting I had a great view of the downtown skyline. I noticed about 8-10 helicopters hovering in different spots over the city. I thought it was weird but dismissed it.
Once I got to my hotel room and turned on the TV, I heard what was going on. Really blown out of proportion. I actually saw footage of the police blowing up the first "device" Talk about some great publicity man.
Cities like Boston are on such an edge that I am not surprised by the reaction.
