Okay, I just heard these guys and they kick some ass. Well actually alot of ass. I was just wondering if anyone is a die hard fan of these guys and can recommend one of their albums to me.

Peace

Here's a link to thier myspace if anyone wants to take a listen.
They kind of remind me of Modest Mouse :thumb:

My friends keep ranting about this group and their most recent album. Guitar kinda sounds like Dinosaur Jr.
Yes! Yes! A million times yes!

You asked for album, and I'm here to tell you, you have two options

Option the first: 1994's "There's Nothing Wrong With Love", which is basically an album full of short-ish pop songs about girls. Not exclusively, but primarily. And it's great! Stand-out tracks: Car, Distopian Dream Girl, Israel's Song. This album was BTS's last on an indie label, Up, before its major label debut.

Option the second: 1997's Perfect From Now On. The band's major label debut, it came out on Warner Bros., and is basically 8 songs of 56 minutes worth of epicness (that's not a word, I know.) It's completely different than TNWWL, full of crashing guitars, but its not as accessible, in my opinion. And because it came out on a major label, its easier to find in the HMVs of the world. Stand out tracks: I Would Hurt a Fly, Made Up Dreams, Kicked it in the Sun.

Some others swear by 1999's Keep it Like a Secret, but I see it as a not-as-good verson of TNWWL.

If I had to listen to one of the two for the rest of my life, it would be There's Nothing Wrong With Love. It's sweet, endearing, and Car is my favourite song by the band, period. But I have poppy tendencies, so that should be noted.

The point is, in my opinion, with either album, you can't go wrong.

edit: BTW, the Modest Mouse comparison is a good one, but BTS is less weird than Modest Mouse, and ultimately, BTS is a better band than Modest Mouse. I like Modest Mouse, but they just aren't as good.
I'll have to try and hunt down a copy TNWWL, and from the sounds of it "Perfect From Now On" too. I need to get my fix of these guys before I go insane
I just got into these guys last year when I picked up their new one, You in Reverse on a whim. I was blown away. I've since picked up Perfect From Now On, Keep it Like a Secret and Ancient Melodies of the Future. I'd recommend all of them highly! I'll be grabbing anything I can get my hands on from these guys.

Easily my greatest musical discovery in years. :thumb:
I don't suppose anyone has a readily available copy of "Cortez the Killer" from their live album to share? Smile Smile

It gave the "US ONLY" message. Thanks anyway! I appreciate it. :thumb:
i like, but wouldn't say love, these guys.
sometimes i feel they sound like a parody of themselves.
fave song is probably "time trap" from "keep it like a secret."
i've been sorta-kinda into them for years and have never, ever seen them schedule a show for toronto. though they seem to play plenty otherwise. weird.

i actually find "there's nothing wrong with love" really juvenile and annoying. (sorry!)

ignore my con-di-tion, but i find "there's nothing wrong with love" kinda juvenile and annoying. (sorry!)

That's funny because because that's the same thing my wife says about a lot of GBV's stuff! Smile

In terms fo BTS though, I'd HIGHLY recommend picking up Doug Martsch's solo record Now You Know especially if you like acoustic guitars and lots of slide work.
Hmm....endorsements from several 'basers whose tastes, I've noticed, tend to parallel mine.

Sounds like I should snag me some Built to Spill......

really? of all the criticisms i've read and/or heard about gbv "juvenile" or "annoying" i've never seen nor heard. i can see how one might find some of early four-track
d-side material "annoying," but gbv "proper" is punchy power rock with rather funkily warped lyrics. i know it's to each his own, but annoying or juvenile? i'm trying to picture it . . .
i certainly have no problems with gbv, and like the poster gbv, have trouble seeing the annoying/juvenile thing...yeah, i don't see it, unless you see them as annoyingly low-fi.

As for TNWWL, you say infantile, i say precious...precious and brilliant.
