Hey Everyone,

With Christmas right around the corner, I was just wondering if there are any particular Hip songs, lyrics or experiences you might of had that evoke a Christmas memory.

I had the opportunity to take my wife to the Christmas Jam at the Phenoix, which made for an excellent early X-mas gift. We both laugh when we think of Gord apologizing for swearing at Christmas time.

As far a Hip tunes, for some reason Something On also make me think about Christmas time. I think it has to do with the lyrics " the ice is covering the trees."
When I hear cannonball tree I think of O Tannenbaum

Something On's "the ice is covering the trees", Makeshift's "Let's shake some snow off of the roof", and An Inch An Hour's "Coffee Coulored Snow and peelin' birch bark" put me in winter/ Chistmas-mode
I got Road Apples for Christmas when I was nine. That record changed my life.
When I was about 11 or 12 I bought my dad this CD called Day for Night by some band called The Tragically Hip. I didn't listen to their music at the time and neither did he really. I think it went in the CD player on Christmas Day for a few minutes and then went into his collection to be forgotten about.

I got hooked on the band a few years later when I started listening to the Live Between Us Album and remembered one day that I had given the DFN CD to my dad for Christmas a few years back. I went rummaging through my dad's collection of albums and sure enough found the disc and found this little song called "Nautical Disaster" that got me hooked on The Hip for good. The exact album is still in my CD changer to this day.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.
Another story:

Christmas Eve for me is really about friends and family. We generally have an open house with an open invite to all friends and family to stop by for however long. If you can only stay for 30 minutes fine...if you want to stay until 2am, that's OK too.

The one constant is I usually have 1 or 2 too many glasses of wine.
As soon as this happens I'm at the CD Player taking the background music off (sorry Rudolph) and throwing on a Hip CD. This always goes over real well with my better half and our guests who do not have the same love for the Hip as me. :thumb:

It always gets changed after I get through one or two songs but like clock work I continue to do it every year. Something about too many drinks and listening to the Hip always makes me smile!!

Merry Christmas
My christmas hip memory is asking for and getting Fully, Completely for christmas in '92. I don't think my mom understood why her youngest daughter was asking for a cd by a rock group called the Tragically Hip while most other girls were asking for boy band cd's. But seeing as how these were the top singles at the end of 1992, I think I definitely made the right music choice: http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/ye...&year=1992
So that was last year screw_ball. Sorry couldnt resist.Merry Christmas.
For the 2000-12-23 ACC show I dressed up Santa Hip. took my Red Hip Jersey & added Fake fur & had red velvet pants with Santa Beard & Hat and gave out 50 live Hip compilations to lucky people at the show. After the show at the Subway station I had people singing Christmas songs to get Cds, great times.
I had some sweet photos, one with me and the Security guard and such. If i can find it i will post. What was funny was two years later one of my friends at Western saw the CD I made in one of their friends rooms.

 No, but it was only about 7 years ago, so fairly recently as far as the grand scope of time goes. Still, I was locked up in this "group" for crazy children and when I first got it I hardly had any time to listen to it since all the supervisors were borrowing it. When I finally did, I don't think I listened to anything else for a few months. I remember one day I made a tape of The Luxury's chorus over and over and I listened to it all day. I'm glad I started listening to good music at an early age.
