Okay, so I'm DJing Wednesday and prepping a New Wave set. Needing a little help, I try to look at some old CFNY charts. I come across this at http://www.spiritofradio.ca/Top1002.asp. Any thoughts on how different this would be, nearly 8 years later? Any modern rock song been important enough to crack the top ten? Seven Nation Army? Last Nite? Take Me Out? How You Remind Me?

By the way, for fans of CFNY, spiritofradio.ca is a fantastic history site.

Cheers,

Pat
Don't think this would crack the Top Ten, but since 1999, I'd say "The Rising" by Bruce would be up there.
All of the songs you mentioned would definitely have to be considered. There have been lots of big U2 singles since then too, "vertigo", "beatiful day", etc. I'm sure i'd come up with more if i thought about it for a while....
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop
Rolling Stones - Infamy (even though not commercially successful, an amazing song)
Neil Young - The Painter
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl?
Coldplay - Talk / Yellow / The Scientist (and other assorted songs)
Bob Dylan - Things Have Changed (his oscar song)
Probably some Audioslave as well
Umm... you were kidding about the Nickelback, right...?
I keep rethinking some haha:

Pearl Jam - Love Boat Captain (Riot Act)
Pearl Jam - Life Wasted and World Wide Suicide (Pearl Jam)
Eddie Vedder's cover of You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
none of the above!

Consider it the tongue planted firmly in cheek

However

This is EDGE 102, or 102.1 The Edge. So there's going to be a Nickelback song in the top 100, no questions asked. As for the Sean suggestions of the Stones, the Boss, etc, no doubt they're great tracks, but something that most modern rock station wouldn't touch. That said, I think The Scientist would make top 50. If not that, then Yellow.

Goriliaz - Clint Eastwood
Audioslave - Like A Stone
U2 - Beautiful Day
Sam Roberts - Where Have All the Good People Gone
Billy Talent - Try Honesty
The Killers - Somebody Told Me

Those would make the list. I'm leaving out most of the ass rock that would end up there (Linkin Park, etc) just because I feel like it.

By the way, there were 20 Hip songs in the list, which I think is the most of any artist (Pearl Jam is close too)

Cheers,

Pat
What about the Peppers?
Santana & Rob Thomas- smooth
Rush- one little victory
The Vines- get free
a Foo Fighters tune (all my life, times like these, best of you...take your pick)

Then there's the whole Staind (it's been a while), 3 Doors Down (kryptonite, loser), Puddle of Mudd (blurry) type scene.
I didn't look at the Top 1002 list...but was Californication out before, or after it? If it doesn't include tunes such as obviously "scar tissue", then it should! As for even newer Peppers, i'd probably put "dani california" ahead of "can't stop" already.
By The Way was a huge track too... I'd call for The Other Side probably though, or Califorication itself.

Cheers,

Pat

I don't think I've heard this...can you Pm it to me?
Yeah i love Eddie's version of that song.
I think All These Things That I've Done was the biggest track for The Killers. You'd have to consider Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand. Beautiful Day was huge. Was No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age pre-99? I don't think so...
