I found out yesterday that my girlfriend works with Gord's Mother-in-law.

Anyways, I have the opportunity to give Gord's mother in law one piece of my memorabilia that I would like signed by Gord. I think I'm going to pick the Coke Machine Glow poetry book to be signed as it would just be a Gord signature and that would make the most sense.

Very cool. One of my best friends Steve lived with a girl in university last year who's best friend's Uncle is Gord. That's the closest I am haha.

Neat connection... but do you really want something signed that way? What's a signature without a personal connection? Sure you've got the connection to your girlfriend who works with his mother-in-law who will see him at some future random Downie family event, but that's it... you didn't get it signed in Whitby, or after The Phoenix shows, so why now?
Anywho... just my thoughts...
I see where Chris is coming from... my signed postcard that came with the Hipeponymous boxset just isn't the same as the stuff I've had personally signed. It's still cool but without a great story behind it it's not the same.

I once ran into Rob at a guitar shop in downtown Kingston which was pretty cool. We were the only two in the shop. I didn't bug him in the usual "hey aren't you" or "I'm a huge fan" way. In fact The Hip wasn't even brought up, we actually just stood and talked about guitars for 5 or 10 minutes and that was it.
I kind of kicked myself for not getting an autograph, but in the long run I think it was more memorable this way..........
Ya, I see what you're saying Chris. I've met Gord and the boys numerous times and had many things signed before and had that great connection.
But now that I've done that, I'm not one to wait around for the boys after the show to get things signed anymore. For me I enjoy watching them play and rock and then go home.
I guess I'm just taking advantage of the connection and to get something signed. I sometimes forget to even bring things to get signed in fear of having it ruined in some way.
I feel like a complete idiot approaching famous people, so I do not make it a habit. I never quite know what to say. Living in Kingston , I've had numerous opportinues to meet various members of the hip but haven't. I broke my own rule in Port Hope when I approached Gord D. Gord was great but I walked away feeling stupid ...
just found out that my sister works with Gord D's sister ...I guess that practically makes us family , eh? Lol..

being in kingston, its a pretty common thing to know someones son or even members of the band; so its not a big deal i guess. What was cool was when Gord S did a talk in my careers class - that was incredible, but before i knew too much about the hip. I do remember he was talking about commercialism in music and joking about Little Bones being used for KFC.
I'd rather get a picture with a musician I like than a signature, but hey, that's just me.
I refereed a kid who's sponsorship on the back of his jersey was The Tragically Hip, at firs I only saw the last 3 letters of his name 'ker' and thought it was a relative of Rob Baker until I saw the rest of his name, can't remember what it was but his dad is good friends with the boys.
Jamie that's pretty cool considering your not in Kingston, CMG booklet is probably the best bet, either that or BOTN CD cover would be sweet too
