My wife and I are getting to the stage that within a couple years, it may be baby making time. Now, this being said, we love to travel. So, if there is 1 or 2 spots we need to hit before our freedom is up, where should it be? Anyone have any great experiences anywhere?

So, if you could go to any destination in the world, where would it be?
I would have to suggest going to Madrid. I spent a month in Spain when I was a junior in high school and it was a fabulous experience. If you plan on spending a bit of time, I would also recommend going to Seville and Allahambra. Both are beautiful, old Spanish towns that are rich in history and also have great food, Flamenco and village tours.

Also, while I've never been, many of my family memeber suggest Scotland. From the photos I've seen, it looks like you can't miss!

I hope this is of some help. :thumb:

The past 2 summers my wife and I have gone to Cuba, to a resort off the beaten path called Breezes Jibacoa. It is located in an agricultural community between Varadero and Havana, and it is amazing. All inclusive of course, and I know for a fact that the dj in the resort disco has a good collection of Hip tunes.

plus they have these great rooms filled with rum and cigars

once you attend all the shows from the tour, visist all the sites in the world that are referenced in the hips songs Big Grin now that would be a the ultimate hip venture (although u need to be rich and a year of your time)

Amsterdam and surrounding area
-Probably my favourite place other than home. Wonderful people, the canals are amazing, they love Canadians, always a good time.

Ireland/Scotland
-Similar but different. Great people, interesting historical sites, unique geography, lots of history, great beer & whisky, food is sometimes great, sometimes quite the opposite. Rent a car, stay in B&Bs, plot your own course.

Italy
-Beautiful country and beautiful people. Good food, great wine, Venice is a wonder that should be seen. Florence is amazing. Cinque Terra is at the top of our list of places to visit. We missed it on our Italian vacation this year.
Europe is definetely on my mind.

But which country to choose? It would not do justice to a country and culture to visit for a day or two and be on my way. Plus, I would have no interest in doing that. So, how do you pick?

I suppose a good 14 days would give me 2 different countries. I suppose I could handle that.

There is just so much choice....Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Greece, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, Norway, Czech Republic.

I can't research them all...

Pick 2!
I did Netherlands, Germany and Austria over a 17 day trek in 2003. It was a lot of fun, and I had enough time in each place to get a sense of what it was really like.

How do you plan on getting around? Although things look close together on a map, the distances are far greater than I thought.

What are you into? Art, music, food, scenary, history, etc...
We like restaurants, pubs, scenary, some history. Anything new. Anything genuine. I like to go somewhere and just chill out...let yourself take it all in. Plant ourselves somewhere and just enjoy.

As for getting around, I have no idea. Perhaps train? Plane?

Another effective way to see many areas would be a cruise. The problem with that is, what I mentioned earlier, not enough time in each city/country.
Bang for your buck...Czech Republic is hard to beat. The Food and Beer are phenomenal and the prices are impossible to top. Great architecture, lots of history and good people...also on average the Czech Republic had the most attractive women I have ever seen in my life...I'm sure your wife will be thrilled to hear that.

Amsterdam is something not to be missed, unfortunately you'd be hard pressed to find a longer stretch across Europe than Prague to Amsterdam...so they might not be doable in the same trek. Like Chris said the people are great, they really do love Canadians and there is so much trouble to get into it's hard to really grasp it until you are there.

And lastly, I really loved Switzerland, it is something to behold. The mountains are breathtaking, the lakes are stunning, the skiing, the overall quality of life there is very high, and certainly on my list of places I would consider moving to...along with Austria for the same reasons as Switz.

Enjoy your trip wherever you settle on.
Scotland/England/Ireland are not cheap. Especially the first two!

See if you can get Josh (The Heron Outside) to chime in with his thoughts as he spent the last year in Poland teaching, and toured that part of the world extensively.

I couldn't agree more.

When I finished university I did the whole backpacking thing, 8 countries in 35 days or something like that, but the best part of my trip was the five or so days I spent in Interlaken. It's a tourist town at the base of the Alps, good nightlife, and is pretty much the adventure sports capital of Europe. Great hiking right around the town, and even better if you take a short train ride up into one of the alpine villages nearby, such as Grindelwald, Murren, or Wengen. Heading back there in the winter for a ski trip is definitely high on my list.

While I loved Europe, the best trip I ever took was this past summer, and I didn't even leave the country. Rented a car in Vancouver and spent a week driving to Calgary, with numerous stops along the way. The Fraser Canyon, The Okanagan, and of course the national parks in the mountains. The drive up the Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper is as good as it gets. And Moraine Lake and Lake Louise are pretty much heaven on earth. Actually I just booked my next trip out there for the end of December...gonna do a little skiing at Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, and Kicking Horse!
Anybody ever gone in the other direction? Such as Japan, China, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, etc. etc.? I have a friend that travels down to Sri Lanka twice a year, and loves it.

Also, I've heard New Zealand is just amazing.

So many places, so little time.
I have been to 27 countries....

The COOK ISLANDS...don't question it, just do it

Survivor fan are we?

Sure does look beautiful though.
I was going to tell you to go to Fiji and if possible to get to Kiribati (pronounced Keeribaz) but I thought you wanted EU options only...if you find that it is tropical paradise that you seek, you will not go wrong with these options or what surferguy suggested...they're all in the same "neck of the woods"
