I'm going through the same obsession with Pretend right now too. I also first heard it at Stratford. and then when I heard it on the video, it didnt register right away because the lyrics are hazy in my mind, but as I hummed it. I eventually caught on lol.

Great video though, I agree with everyones gripes about the color, not seeing the rest of the band and the cheesey ending, but oh well, I guess Gordie is the attraction,

Maybe universal is deciding to really just push The Hip as a single personality... almost like.. a "Ben Harper and the innocent criminals" or a "Dave Matthews Band" where its sorta just zoned in on one personality to simplify what the average joe blow radio listener will think of when they hear the name: The Tragically Hip.....Just call me Captain Obvious if its already been said.

or we could be just grinding gears for no reason at all and this song will get no added exposure beyond anything from the previous few albums, and us "hardcore fans" are left to enjoy the fruits of their labor while we scratch our heads as to how the masses arent catching onto The Hip below the great white north...

I've only heard about 30 seconds of Pretend but I already know I'm gonna love it!

The video is funny as hell, Gord's big trip and tumble is great. The cuts I found a bit annoying at first but oh well, its something different. And I don't think it matters about the band not being in it. If they were, someone would say, "every Hip video is just the boys playing the song" or something like that. I like that this video was totally unlike any other.

I'm sure we'll see at least one more video from this album and we can see the boys playing to whatever tune they choose.

Anyways, thanks Mav for posting it, I had a feeling I'd find it on the site today too!

The video is alright, I liked how they matched up Gord stealing the cell phone with the tempo in the music picking up...

What I wasn't a bit fan of, was how the cut scenes seemed to come at completely random times in the song... They synced up fine with the video itself, you could tell when it was going to go to a cut scene.

But it totally ruined the flow of In View, seemed to cut it off at completely random spots of the song...

Weird video...the pauses in the middle of the song caught me offguard at first, then i got used to them seeing as there were about 4 of them
Song is starting to get catchy though..after hearing it live in Stratford and now here, it's growing on me

I don't have much to add that hasn't been said. I thought it was very funny, the lack of colour seemed odd, the cuts were strange but fine, and I don't really care whether the entire band appeared or not.

My only question is if there's going to be another version of the video without the cuts. Not that I want one, just that 5:35 is a long video for videoflow. Often bands give out long and short versions of videos. Just curious.

I found it really funny! :lol: There's some great facial expressions from Gord. It's quite an interesting concept, although I'm not entirely sure about all the breaks/interludes - they disrupt the song too much.

On the whole, great stuff and I WANT GORD'S HAT!!

What a great video! That bit with Gord climbing the truck and scaling the building was hilarious.

Good point John. Thinking about it now, it seems like a no brainer that the version that MuchMusic/MTV will play would be without the interludes... just In View.

^--- You would think so. It will be interesting to see what they do in this case.

Like I said earlier, I don't really have a problem with the interludes aside from them taking away from the flow of the song at some odd points... Not so much an issue for those of us who have heard the song before without the interludes... Infact, I kind of like them in the video personally...

But I think if this was someones first listen to the song, they may have an even harder time trying to get a feel for the song than we did when we all first heard it... And that might not be good, seeing as people tend to judge something on their first impressions, and as i'm sure most of us know, that is something that you just can't do when it comes to The Hip because its fairly often that you don't like a song when you first hear it, and only the fans of the band are usually going to repeatedly listen to the song and gain an appreciation for it...

Then again, I may just be looking into it a bit too far

I think they add to the narrative of the video, but I agree that it does disrupt the song quite a bit.

the new video is pretty damn funny....i like it!
