So, anyone (aside from me and Skippy......LOL) pick up the new Dylan CD yet??
All I can say is I love it! Workingman's Blues #2 is an instant classic to me :thumb:
But then again, this is coming from someone who would buy a CD of Dylan reciting a phone book and love every second of it....................
I'm hoping to get my hands on it at some point, but I'll have to wait until next Friday, at least. C'mon pay day!
Is the song that Bobby features in the new iPod commercial included? I haven't yet seen the track listing.

I'm really loving it so far. But have only listened to it online(gotta wait for the vinyl to come in the mail). I'm not as crazy about the single as I am the other tracks(sound familiar?), but they are all pretty powerful to me.
I guess I don't have to answer ... but I ordered the CD/DVD set, with the smoking "Cold Irons Bound" from
Masked and Anonymous. Which is here:

Yes, the song from the iPod ad is on the CD.
It's less varied than
"Love & Theft" and it doesn't have a "High Water" or a "Mississippi", but it's a good album by its own lights. It's come in for some criticism for the length of the songs, but long songs without real musical development have been Dylan's thing since
Time Out of Mind, so I think those critics have been missing the point.
Haven't bought it yet, but I will sometime this week. I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Loving it so far - especially Thunder On the Mountain.
Picked it up yesterday on my way home from work, and I'm loving it. Highlights for me so far: Thunder On the Mountain, When the Deal Goes Down, Workingman's Blues #2.
"Modern Times" has reached #1 on the billboard charts. It's always nice to see an old guy like Dylan kicking the shit out of vapid pop stars half his age. I love it.

I'm pleased with that myself, but I think the iPod ads are very un-Dylan. Never thought I'd see the day when
he sells out.
Modern times, indeed.

I thought the same thing, but I like to think that he borrowed a page out of U2's book by not accepting any money for the ad.
dylan sold out year ago when he was in a victoria secret commercial...the dream is over boys

You mean like when he did the Victoria's Secret ad?
Or when the Bank of Montreal used "The Times They are a-Changin'" in a commercial?
That day has been and gone, long ago. About ten years back, actually.
Now try to define "selling out." Would it be writing a song according to your own vision, and then allowing it to be used in a commercial? Or would it be recording blatantly commercial pap in an effort to appeal to market tastes, while striking a counter-culture pose?
Examine this notion of "selling out" for more than a couple of minutes, and you'll find it has nothing to do with art or music. The value of a work is in the work, not in the pose the author strikes in an effort to appear genuine.
The whole idea of not "selling out" is marketing horseshit created by the rock-n-roll image machine. Only sellouts, in other words, make a point of not selling out: that's the biggest sellout of all.

I'm actually talking about him physically appearing in a commercial to endorse a product. That to
me, is selling out.
I'm unfamiliar with the VS ad, but I'm sure he wasn't modelling a thong.

hock:
it was sad seeing him and hearing him in the VS ad
