Gnarls Barkley...it's a damn catchy cd, and kind of a cool version of the Violent Femmes "Gone Daddy Gone"....damn..i didn't need a guilty pleasure in this great year of music
Don't feel guilty, man. Good music is good music is good music.
In my opinion, liking Gnarles Barkley gives you a lot more "cred" than liking RHCP.
But that's just the point. Opinions don't matter. Everyone, myself included, needs to get over that line of guilty pleasure vs. good music.
I mean, I just put Kelly Clarkson's fucking "Since U Been Gone" on a mix cd. And after feeling momentarily ashamed, I felt pretty good about it because it's a great pop song.

Gnarls Barkley closed one of the festivals that The Hip played in Europe this year; sadly we had to hit the road before they came on so we didn't see their show... but at that time I didn't care. Now that I know who they are and have heard some more of their music I wish that we had stayed.
PS: I'm going to see the Dixie Chicks when they are here in Toronto on October 28.

Put me down as a closet Kelly Clarkson admirer as well. Sure, her stuff is generic watered-down radio fodder, and I wouldn't buy any of her records, but that chick can sure belt out a tune! I remember flipping channels one night and I came across her performance on one of those award shows, and she blew everybody else off the stage. The part that got me was that you could hear she was out of breath during certain parts of the song, which proved that she was actually SINGING, which is such a rarity in pop music these days. I was impressed.
I heard the cover of "Gone Daddy Gone" on Entourage a few weeks back, and I wondered who it was. I liked it, and Gnarls Barkley are a good group. Haven't heard the record yet, but if you put people with that much talent in their respective fields together, something good is bound to happen.
Thank god we are having this group hug opening-up moment.
At last I can admit to my stash of Nickleback albums...If only Bob Rock would produce one of their albums I would be stoked....

We may have missed Gnarls in Europe but I saw his show in Toronto a couple weeks ago, we went for the opening band Peeping Tom, Mike Patton's new project and hung around for Gnarls, they were all right, not great though. I have to give them credit though, they had a full band, 13 members in total, with them.
