but if you want to be the real deal, you need skills, a lot of fire in your belly, confidence, and a good work ethic...hip hop is more alive and vibrant and relevant right now than rock & roll is, so i wouldn't be knockin it...

not to mention Destroyer is a much better album than anything Leppard ever released? why all the hate for Kiss? cuz they're greedy? yeah, sure they are, so are a lot of bands...that's no reason to not appreciate how groundbreaking and influential Kiss were...
I dont hate Kiss, but I dont really like them a whole lot either. Although War Machine is a killer song.

I'd love you to show me one reference - any reference whatsoever - that even remotely suggests that the guys in Pearl Jam were into KISS growing up. Just one.
If any of my favourite bands show up on stage wearing face paint, spitting red yogurt, start selling caskets, and turn their "farewell tour" into a seven year cash grab, they too can cross me off their list.
KISS exists solely to push higher margin merch. That's it, that's all.
now they do, but they started the band to avoid having real jobs, get women, become rock stars, and mainly because they love rock & roll...just like anybody else...
you are only concerning yourself with their image and their marketing, the real issue is the music, and a lot of their music is good...maybe not to you, but to a fucking hell of a lot of people it sure is...and i will find out if anybody in Pearl Jam liked kiss (and based on how old they are somebody in that band liked KISS as a kid or at least thought they were cool, or wanted to be rock stars like them)...
the funniest thing about all of this arguing is that I probably hate Gene Simmons more than all of you do combined...but i can still respect him as a musician (not an artist), a performer, and as one hell of a business man (apparently he's quite the ladies' man too)...

Uh, KISS is ALL image and marketing. Without image and marketing they'd have never made it. Simmons and Stanley developed a schtick, and they've milked it for 30 years and I imagine they will continue to do so until they die.
Anyway, before this continues down the "KISS sucks"/"No they don't" never-ending thread, I'll leave it at that.
