BUMP!
I'm now seriously looking into acquiring a CC, and looking for some Hipbase advice. Perhaps some of your opinions have changed since the original thread date, or better Credit Cards are available now. Here is the situation: I'm 23 years old, and looking to make put a couple of purchases (between $1000-$3000) on a card to help build my credit score before I move on to a more "advanced stage in life". I am looking for a card that has a low or no annual fee, and provides airmiles.
Any suggestions/opinions? Links for online applications would be great to see. Thanks in advance.
Just go to your bank and talk to them. Tell them exacly what you want and you'll be set. (Assuming you're a Canuck.)

Lots of bank-linked cards with fees become free if you maintain a predetermined mnimum balance in your bank account. And the annual fee cards get you the best rewards.

It's been said in this thread but the key is if you don't have the money to pay fr what you are buying don't buy it. Buyng without having the money will push you down the slippery slope of lifelong debt.

If you need to make a large purchase get a short term loan or line of credit from the bank; not a credit card. Credit cards are for people with money as it allows them to manage their cashflow better.

I put more than $40000.00 per month on my business card and pay it off each month. The card doesn't cost me a cent in interest. That's how it's meant to be. (I run my own business and by everything for the company on the card.)
