doesn't come out until july 25th, but the new single "saving grace" is ass-kicking!! really bluesy and gritty..great guitar work, and petty sounds amazing..can't wait..2006 has been such a great year for music

Definitly been a good year for some new tunes.
Can't wait to hear the new Petty cd. I wish I could get to one of those Petty shows with Pearl Jam opening for them, they're sure to kick some ass.
I wasn't too impressed with Petty's song being featured during the NBA Finals but anyway... Tom has better things to do with his art than give it to the NBA.
A group of us went to the Petty show here on June 10 and had a great time. I hadn't seen him since 1991 - far too long. He played Saving Grace and all of us liked it a lot. Very much looking forward to the new album.
We didn't get the Petty/Pearl Jam combo (bummer) but our show was one of the ones Stevie Nicks was at. I've never really been a Stevie Nicks fan but seeing her and Petty do Stop Draggin My Heart Around and The Insider was very cool indeed.
did anyone go to the show last year, or in the winter maybe, with the black crowes, i think it was at lee's.
Completely off the topic, but that's a cool quote, tiger:
It's pure, honest music. No bullshit. ~Link Wray speaking on Neil Young
I'll bet that's exactly what Neil said about Link, too.
Thanx for the tip Opiated, I just pulled out my copy of Wildflowers, if anyone hasn't heard that 1, check it out....

For sure :thumb: There was a thread awhile ago about greatest cds/music or something to that affect, Wildflowers belongs on that list, IMO 8)

It was supposedly what Link Wray told Jimmy Mcdonough (author of Shakey) after hearing "Danger Bird" for the first time.
just picked up the cd today and after only 1 listen i can truly say another gem for 2006...it's definately a sadder cd from petty than we're used to but "square one" is worth the price of the cd alone...beautiful album
What do you think of this review?

that's an interesting review for sure..it doesn't really actually say much about the album though...i think that "petty and peppers" thing was more about petty's publicist than tom himself....the more i hear the cd the more i like it..a few standouts besides the one i mentioned are Night Driver, Flirting With Time and Turn This Car Around..
Cool. The song featured during the NBA playoffs didn't tickle my fancy but Tom is Tom and he's good.

what song did they use?? i'm assuming it was Saving Grace, which is the first single..that song is not at all what the rest of the cd sounds like..it's very laid back
