i too could say buh-bye to NOIS, as without the jams, it just ain't the same....I used to prey for that song, just so I could here something new in the middle...now it's lost it's excitement....hopefully this little series of shows coming up sees the boys try out some different sets, rather than just the standards....

If they have to end with the same song every night I would hope for Little Bones. That song flat out rocks live.
Unless as stated above... they jam the middle of New O again... thats cool.
I dig ya but...
Was out to see my friend Mr. http://www.tabbenoit.com/
Tab was talking to me about New Orleans and what is really going on. He said that most people have no clue what-so-ever the facts of the matter on the ground, even today.
Oil companies are reaping record profits on offshore oil leases AND PAYING NO TAX ON IT. Either to Federal or State governments. The oil leases in the Gulf of Mexico were sold cheap 10 years ago when the price of oil didn't support exploiting the Gulf. The cavet was no taxes on GOM drilling because it was risky...now they are reaping BILLIONS, and paying no tax to the State Of Louisiana. Was gonna go see for myself...that was the conversation with Tab...if you don't see it, you don't know how big it really is. I said (being we were less than 30K from Ground Zero) "9/11 was bigger".
No it wasn't, was his response.
Katrina effected more citizens than 9/11. It was the greatest diaspora in North America since the trail of tears. And Canadians should recognize what is going on, bacause LA Cajuns are ther remaints of another NA diaspora.
So should TTH continue to play NOIS?
Colonel Tom, What's wrong? What's going on?
You can't tie yourself up for a deal
He said, "Hey north you're south shut your big mouth,
You gotta do what you feel is real"
Ain't got no picture postcards, ain't got no souvenirs
My baby, she don't know me when I'm thinking bout those years
Yes. Play it and say it. Let the world know that NEW ORLEANS IS STILL SINKING!
I got that the song is done, but the fact is that it is now relevent. Fear no art...and you fear no reflection.

WOW! That was deep. Nice.

Good reasoning Mule! Its funny how much sense Hip lyrics make when you actually read them insted of hear them....

that is great insight, thanks for sharing that

The Hip bring me back to those happy days of my youth in Kingston. As an Ex-Pat, they also bring me back to Canada and, for me, NOIS is part of the tradition that I will really miss. It brings up memories and images of things I generally don't think of and barely remember because I was generally "well on my way" by the time they played it.
IMO, its a great song with awsome riffs. I love it and hope I hear it when they play at The Gorge on Memorial Day Weekend.
Yes, they have a lot of great songs: Poets, Little Bones, Grace Too, etc. NOIS is one of them and I'll miss it if I don't hear it. Also, given the Katrina debacle, it seems to me that it presents a great oppertunity for Gord to go off on a rant. I hope so.

i wouldn't mind it being replaced by Blow At High Dough...much better song, and much better live song IMO.
if anything they need to bring Greasy Jungle back...i have to hear that song live before i die.

I just simply think that The Hip need to switch up they're setlists way more from night to night. Typically, Canadian setlists are ... well... typical.

One of my favourite shows was the 'Evening with the Hip' show back in 2000. I really liked that it gave the band a chance to dig deeper into their catalogue. I liked getting to actually hear songs like 'Titanic Terrarium' live for a change. Nothing against any of the more popular songs however.
So if the band changed it up a bit more I'd be in favour of it.

that is a good point, but i don't think they would be as appreciated as they are if that were the case, and i doubt as many fans would attend their shows...
it would be nice if they'd do like Pearl Jam and just play whatever the hell they wanted to though.

Maybe they are playing what they want? Maybe they like playing NOIS?
I see the Hip live once every 2 years or so. Ergo, I haven't heard NOIS enough to get sick of it. I haven't heard them play anything enough to get sick of it.

Agreed Sam, I've only seen the Hip live twice, and once was at Magnetic Hill, hence no NOIS. If they don't play that song in Charlottetown in June, i'll be pissed! I haven't seen The Hip live enough yet to be tired of hearing the big hits live. When i see them, i still want to hear "poets" and "hundredth meridian" and "ahead by a century", and so on (music @ work i could do without though, never did care for that song too much, especially live). And just listen to the crowd reaction to each song, the majority of the fans are waiting for songs like NOIS.
An artists i've seen live MANY times is Bryan Adams, and now with him, it wouldn't bother me a whole lot if he left off, say "summer of '69" and replaced it with something like "house arrest" or "do to you" the odd time. However, the majority of the fans aren't diehards like myself, so there is no way he can't play it. If i were to go see a band like the RHCP live, i'd be very disappointed if they didn't play "under the bridge", or Collective Soul and "shine", or John Fogerty and "fortunate son", etc. etc. etc.
