I'm not taking either side on this one but I'm a little disappointed that Jake Gold would take part in this spat by saying how "flat" Drew's vocals were. Yes, his singing wasn't the greatest but what the hell is a voice anyway? I don't even like BSS but most of my favourite bands/artists have flaws in their vocal delivery.
I believe American/Canadian Idols are a joke anyways. I'm not saying that the singers are bad, because obviously they're not..but nobody really cares about how the person does after the show..they just enjoy the ratings, as well as the Idols concerts.
zach werner is a joke...an embarassment really to music in this country.

That I'll agree with. I mean, how can you compete with Skye Sweetnam and Robin Black, right? Werner sure knows talent.

Case. Point. Agreed.

BTW, AWESOME NEIL PIC!
Totally agree on Neil. Great pic! But of course, this thread wouldn't be complete without mentioning our other favorite "flawed" vocalist:

King of the "flawed" vocalists!
Dylan didn't have the greatest chops either...actually he could go down as one of the worst.

I totally agree TDC, but somehow he made it work. I especially enjoy Billy Corgan's voice on the softer songs, ie: Thirty-Three and Tonight, Tonight.
Obscured, Soothe, Landslide, Dancing In the Moonlight, The Last Song, and just about the entire Adore album are perfect examples of that
its the conviction and raw emotion with which he sings that make him a great vocalist despite not having a great voice, the exact opposite of your american idols ect...

Why the past tense? He's singing worse than ever across the southern States as we write. Although I'd contend that he is actually a brilliant singer, and that people who say he can't sing don't know jack about singing ... I wish I could sing as well as Dylan.
BUT: he never sings flat. Neither are Neil or Gord known for singing flat.
All kinds of singing flaws are "good," but most people agree that singing on key and hitting the notes is generally a good thing. Mind you, I didn't watch the Junos so I don't know how bad BSS was....

i couldn't agree more...it's the same thing with guitar players...give me a guitar player with great tone over a guy that can shred up and down the neck ripping out constant solos....tone is so underappreciated.
