Spring has finally arrived in the terrifyingly bleak land of Syracuse. I was just getting ready to go running when I realized that my neck and shoulders are sore. I poked at them a bit, and examined them under the ungodly lighting in the bathroom and found that they're sunburned! I am elated. I'm ready for nice weather and all of it's indicators! I should also mention baseball, non-winter seasonal beer, buds on trees, baby animals and flip flops are also on my "hey! the weather doesn't suck anymore!" list.
What other signs of better weather are popping up for the hipbasers?

BBQ'ing outside is really nice. Steak just doesn't taste the same on the stove.
so true, i had the best strip loin last night, perfect and pink and melting in my mouth...*salivating*
BBQ'ing some sausages tonight, and then watchin the Yankees/Jays game

u guys telling me you don't bbq during the winter? weird, as far back as I can remember we've always barbequed year round at my house, albeit a little bit more often in the summer, but at least once a week during the winter
I don't care how cold it is, I'm not eating a steak if it's cooked on the stove
almost all of the trees here are in full bloom and the grass is really nice and lush and green and everyone takes their books and laptops and things and studies outside. Or plays frisbee.
EDIT: I almost forgot! The lawnmower tune-up day sponsored by the engineering majors. Sure sign of spring!

You know its spring in Alaska when the following happens:
1)All the mechanic and lube shops are swarmed with people itching to get their snow tires off so they can go mudding off road.
2)The moose retreat back up the mountains in search of new shoots of grass, berries after they've finished denuding the lower elevations of shubbery, pussywillows, etc.
3)Parts of the paved road system buckle upward and create giant Yeeehaw bumps in the road as the permafrost starts to thaw and buckle.
4)The unpaved roads turn into giant bogs of mud and water that make Lewis and Clark's travels up the Missouri look like tiddlywinks.
5)People in the Bush (more specifically, around the Nenana River area) erect a giant wooden tripod on the frozen river and start betting on the exact day and time the tripod will crack and go under when the river unfreezes.
Fun times here in Alaska! :lol:
One of the best things about summer is Oberon. How I possibly go 1/2 a year without is beyond me.

I'm right there with ya, twang....but the problem i have grilling my steaks in wintertime is getting the damn grill hot enough. I've learned that grilling it 'right' so to speak means being able to maintain a teperature of at least 425 degrees in that bad boy (if it's not, the steak won't "sear" and lock in all those loverly juices...
Nice propane grills can do that in most any cold (as long as it's not sub-zero, i suppose....but my charcoal grill can't....
I got a sunburn on my bald spot...no I don't have a combover...just a little thin.
First sign of spring, me changing my winter wipers back to summer. :lol:
Im so glad the nice weather is back, it always gives me a lift. I get to wear my sandals all the time now (I hate wearing socks), and like the others the BBQ is going again, how I miss that.
How do I know it's getting nice.? My wife stops wearing those damn sweat pants and sweat shirts. God I hate cold weather :x
And you have to BBQ all year. The only plus to winter BBQ is the beer stays a hell of a lot colder on the deck.
