Does anyone know if there is any correlation between the Hip's Goodnight Josephine and the Yardbirds' Goodnight Sweet Josephine? To me the lyrics are vaguely similar, but I'd probably just assume that it was coincidence.

Why would you assume it was coincidence?

Given the music the Hip played way back when, one would expect they'd be aware of the Yardbirds tune. And the similarity is pretty striking.

Wow, that's a little snippy...or am I missing something here?

Besides tha fact that it's about a girl named Josephine, I fail to see any sort of connection. The Hip's Josephine seems sweet and adoring, this Josephine has a sexualized and seductive tone to her.

Everyone turns everything into a debate. Buddy asked for opinions, I gave it..no need for a debate.

I don't see too much similarity in the songs but since the Yardbirds (particularly Jeff Beck) was probably one of the biggest influences on Baker in his earlier musical days, I'd say there is a strong possibility that Gord and the boys know the song at the very least. Perhaps it inspired Gord to write "Goodnight Josephine".
