Hey,
Does anyone on the base kayak? Thinking of getting one. My buddy wants to sell me his. Real sweet deal. Like 2/3's off retail. Just wondering if I'd use it. I live in Kansas right now, plenty of rivers and lakes, but nothing too huge. Any thoughts?

nopers sorry....not this chicky...
I actually kayak at least once a week in the summertime. It's a great hobby, and it really relaxing. One of my fondest memories was when me and some friends were camping on an island, (we kayak'ed there) (with one canoeing boat for supplies) and the next morning a dense fog covered all of the Belle Isle Bay. The sweltering hot sun was bursting through the fog too. We went and kayak'ed all morning through the fog. Not the safest thing you can do, but it was amazing. If you think you'll use the kayak, I say go for it! Not only is relaxing and fun, its a great upper-body workout.
We have a couple sea kayaks that we use on Superior for still water kayaking. I haven't done a lot of river kayaking though. It's a lot of fun, good exercise and all that jazz.
I would recommend a beginners' course or something before heading out though. The local pools around here offer them and it's a good way to learn how to roll or bail in a controlled environment. Because, really, you want to know how to do either before you head out onto the water.
But yeah, we love kayaking.
This message board may be able to help you more, its a paddleing club in the Saint Louis area. Mostly Kayakers.
