I dont think Ive ever heard of a guy opening for his own band with his side project band, that would be bizarre.

I've seen it before, and for the life of me, I can't think of who the hell it was. Damn, this is going to drive me nuts now. It was back in the early 90's anyways.
wintersleep members are also in the band contrived and opened for them on the dependant tour
I saw Gordie Johnson open with Big Rude Jake (on keyboards and in semi-disguise) before a Big Sugar show.
