The Darkest Canuck Wrote:yeah...so how'd that whole 5 game series vs. the Yankees go for Boston anyway?
oh wait, that's right, THEY LOST ALL 5 GAMES! haha!
and to top it all off, Manny injured himself today...
As a die hard Red Sox fan, I gotta say that they deserved getting their asses handed to them, well, not the players so much, but whoever thought it was a good idea to decimate the team that had been through the 2003 and 2004 playoffs. Let's have look at who was playing this weekend (not including injured players such as Tek, Wake, Sheff, and Matsui):
Still on (or have since been hired on by) the Red Sox:
David Ortiz
Kevin Youkilis
Manny Ramirez
Gabe Kapler
Curt Schilling
Keith Foulke
Mike Timlin
David Wells
Still on (or have since been hired on by) the Yankees:
Mike Mussina
Mike Myers
Mariano Rivera
Jorge Posada
Jason Giambi
Derek Jeter
Alex Rodriguez
Johnny Damon
Bernie Williams
It's funny how the above lists are the players who seemed to show up for the series. You gotta think that Derek Lowe, had he still be on the Sox (head case and all), would've come into the series with a 5+ ERA only to toss a 2-hitter or something. But no, we've got Matt Clement (who is
where by the way?)
Gotta respect the ones who've been through it (even ARod). If you don't, you may as well tear down the Green Monster and build a nice fancy stadium in some Boston suburb.

Ummm, he didn't actually say that. Nonetheless, he should be fired. J.P. too. We are, after all, going into the sixth year of his glorious five-year plan.
Gibbons should be fired. He's an embarassment to the team. Apparently, he got into it with Ted Lilly last night...

Damon is having an awesome year in pinstripes so far...he's really helping the Yankees keep it together...Jeter's being Jeter...A+ Jeter, Abreu is lightin it up...Melky is almost like this year's version of Cano...Cano is still every bit as good as he was last year as a rookie...Giambi is consistantly crushing balls into the stands...Posada's having a good year, despite some sketchy outings Johnson's got 14 wins, as do Mussina and Wang...Jaret Wright hasn't been spectacular, but he's got a winning record...Lidle's shown some potential...he was great against the Sox yesterday...Dotel's back from injury, Pavano should be back soon...Craig Wilson was a solid pick up at the trade dead-line...Andy Phillips has been impressive...
Sheffield is going to be back soon...and hopefully Matsui won't be far behind him...
it's all coming together for them this year, and the competition in the AL isn't quite what it's been the past few seasons...really the only teams that look capable of going all the way are the Yankees and Tigers...with the White Sox having an outside chance...i doubt that the A's, or Twins, or Indians, or Angels or Jays could...
NL doesn't look to threatening either...
2 and a half weeks til the Yankees come to Toronto for a 3 game set! whooooooooo! i will be there.
i know that's barely worth posting, but this thread needed a good *BUMP*

You mean you just wanted to give us another dose of bandwagon set-up....I know, I know, you've loved the Habs, Yanks, and Suns since FOrEver....still, it all seems a little too convenient from my point of view
you want to talk about bandwagoners? i've been keeping these fucking baseball threads alive since arrived on this board, and where the hell are all the folks that were chirping (pardon the pun) about the jays earlier in the year? i seem to be the only one who even cares at this point, and believe me i care, very much so.
i have not loved the Suns forever (i do love the way they play though, it is exciting b-ball, and ya gotta love Nash, even though i couldn't bring myself to cheer for the Mavs when he was there, lol)), i am bandwagoning them, haha, i still prefer the Raptors actually...the Heat are pretty fun to watch too. i dunno, i've just been getting back into basketball in the past couple of years...i used to watch it a lot more often as a kid when Jordan was still playing...watching Wade this past playoffs gave me a very similar feeling to that of when i used to watch MJ tear it up...BACK TO BASEBALL.
how bout that, who was it, Sanchez? of the Marlins? pitched a no-hitter today! and he's a rookie too if i'm not mistaken? craaaaaaaaaaazy!
yes yes hard times for jays fans, (something i've grown use to) i may not post much on them here but im all over bluejayway.ca
id say the mvp are pretty much set Morneau & Howard, also like to add im currently reading stewart o'nan's & stephen king's 'faithful' and its fanfuckintastic
Going to the Cardinals/Astros game on Wednesday. Should be good stuff. The Cards sure are slipping...

This part I particularly found amusing:
"[Mike] Mussina doesn't get hammered at all," he told SI. "He's making a boatload of money. Giambi's making [$20.4 million], which is fine and dandy, but it seems those guys get a pass. When people write [bad things] about me, I don't know if it's [because] I'm good-looking, I'm biracial, I make the most money, I play on the most popular team ..."
I think it's because he's so good looking. That must be it.
On June 7, the Minnesota Twins were eight games below .500 with a record of 25-33. Since then, the Tigers have compiled a record of an incredible 68-30. On August twelve games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers. Now, they have clinched the AL wildcard and sit just one game back of Detroit in the AL Central.
I was, and still am, impressed with the Tigers season as they have made one of the best turnarounds from one season to the next I can remember. But I must say that Minnesota's season is even more impressive, showing tremendous heart, will, and resiliency to battle back into the playoff picture in a tough American Leage and solid divison. I gotta give it up for the Twinkies.
I've always admired the Twins organization for being a fine example of how to remain competitive smaller fish in a big pond, but their run this summer and fall has been nothing short of phenomenal.
I know for whom I'll be rooting come the playoffs!!
Yankees clinched the division while i was in town! i got to crack open a bottle of Alizee while i watched them pop their Champagne!
so far so good, and even though i'm hearing that Randy Johnson might not be ready for the playoffs, i'm not concerned, either way, they're putting just as good a team on the field as anybody else this October...
may the best team win, here's hoping for a month of excellent baseball...
ps: i want another Subway Series...
yep but the jays beat em today
phils are out, congratz to the padres
should be some exciting matchups, i hope liriano will be able to play for the twins
