Just heard on 680 news that the hip will be playing a benefit show on June 21 in Toronto with Avril and Shania, and others to be announced. I didn't catch any other details (location/cost/...).
Anyone else hear this?
C.
Yeah...I heard as well.
It seems there will be others involved as well...Neil Young to name one. They are apparently doing a huge similtaneous concert at the ACC and Skydome involving a bunch of folks.
We will keep an eye on it.
Should be nutty.
Mats.
The Hip are playing along with Avril, Shania, Neil Young and others. They are going to do at the ACC as well as skydome. Tickets are going to be around 40 bucks.
CP24 is also reporting the same thing:
First it was the Rolling Stones asked to ride to Toronto's S.A.R.S.-induced emotional rescue. But now it appears the talent will be a lot more home grown. Details are coming on a mega-rock concert so big it will have to be held at two separate venues. Reports indicate Shania Twain, Neil Young, Avril Lavigne, The Tragically Hip and Sum 41 could all take part in the giant musical extravaganza, which would take place at both the SkyDome and the Air Canada Centre on June 21st.
Ticket prices for the event, which would be held to boost the city's confidence after being battered by the illness for a second time, would be capped at around $35-40 to make them more affordable. It's also hoped the announcement will bring back something Toronto hasn't seen in a while - tourists.
Organizers of the musical marathon are also trying to recruit "Bruce Almighty" - no, not Springsteen, but Jim Carrey, hoping his drawing power would add to the event. And there's also a possibility Scarborough native Mike Myers could be on the bill. He recently boosted the city on the Tonight Show, and will be here for his own Walk of Fame induction on June 25th.

If it's true the Hip are part of this plan, Gordie could have a busy day...he's scheduled to play in St. Adele, PQ that day in a festival-type show. I presume he would be bumped up in the lineup and then fly back to T.O. to hook up with the rest of the band for the evening show...
I imagine they'd split the acts up based on fan demographics (the Hip, Shania, Neil Young, etc at the ACC (for us fogeys) and Avril, Sum 41, etc at the Dome for the "yoots")...
I guess we'll hear more later today...
M.
Latest...
Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon. They are $19.50 and $29.50. NO PST.
What we do not know is who is playing where and when. Also, we do not know the logistics of it...is it general admission? Do you get a ticket for one venue only? etc.
So as info comes in, please let us/me know.
Thanks,
Mats
You've probably all read it already but here's a link to a Canoe article about the show:

I don't think there's any new info in there that hasn't already been posted here though.
hip, bnl, avril, sum41, and olp are playing skydome, tickets on sale thursday at noon
WOW!!!
Another reason why I should be in southern Ontario...
I wish I could make it for this, I hope it is on TV.
thats shitty if their playing the skydome i was hoping ACC and thinking it would be there for sure considering if neil young is also going to be there and playing the ACC june 23rd
i would like to be there too but i think it will sell out to fast and that is my inlaws 40th wedding anniversery party. so i know i won't go to the big T.O. hopefully it will be on tv so i can see it, or at least get a copy of it
later
Ron
The worst part about them being in the Dome is going to be the competition for tickets from the Sum 41/Avril/OLP crowd...
The good news is there'll be 50,000+ tickets available...the bad news is 40,000 plus of them will likely be snatched up by the 20 and under crowd (no offense to any Hipbasers who fit this demographic! )...
I was quietly hoping they'd be on the same bill as the BNL, Neil Youngs, etc...I'll be curious to see how the "younger generation" takes to them after being worked over by Sum and Avril...the next question is, who opens for who?

cratch:
Oh well...that and Patrick Roy retiring today makes me feel sooooo old!

concert is running from 3:30 to 9:30...a company in

downtown toronto offers tickets to events before they go on sale to the public with an extra fee added on (only $38 instead of the 29.95) and the section of tickets they had sold out in five minutes
As of 700 pm eastern there is no info on tickemaster.ca Whats up with that.
I.m assuming the hip will close, just like the music without borders concert
ow are we supposed to buy tickets????????
tickmaster has listings under skydome went on around 8pm
concert starts at 3PM ---
see ya there hipfans
this is, needless to say, pretty sick. i hope the hip play a decent length set, what with gordie jetting all over the place on the days around the show.
