eenngghh WRONG!! The reason they make spreads so close are to make the better think hard about who they are going to pick.
Also, now I know that you didn't see a Cowboys game last year because during every televised game the announcers went on and on about how they could be undefeated with all of the heart break losses that they had suffered in previous weeks.
Now with the signing of T.O and his td/avg per game the Cowboys will not lose as many heartbreaking games in the final minutes anymore.

Anyways, whose your team then, the Giants or the Redskins?
good teams win close games..bad teams lose them...a fragile bad team just got the biggest asshole in the league..good luck with that
THE COWBOYS GIANTS AND REDSKINS ALL SUCK! ACTUALLY THE WHOLE ENTIRE NFC SUCKS!

THE AFC IS SO MUCH BETTER THAT IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY!
I simply cannot believe J. Jones would force his entire fan base to ignore TO's cancerous character and turn a blind eye towards the flat-out disrespect he showed the Lone Star state / Cowboy Nation (by his antics on the Star at midfield in Dallas when with the Niners)....all at the expense of the slim potential that he might actually improve the team instead of inevitably blow it up.

I grew up a Dallas fan....and while my loyalty has long vanished, any lingering allegiences I have to that team have flown right out the window.

Integrity in Sport is all but dead.

So, Captain NFL - let me get this straight - according to you they make spreads close so that you have a hard time deciding who to pick. That's pretty much the dumbest thing I've seen on these boards in the past 12 months. Well champ, if a close spread makes games harder to pick than a big spread does, then why even have a spread at all? I mean no spread is closer than an even spread, right? According to you, that would be the hardest spread of all. Boy, you are a brilliant one aren't you?

And while I didn't see every minute of every Cowboys game that was broadcast, what the hell does it matter what an announcer says? Just last week I was listening to a Flames game on the radio and the Flames announcer called Duane Roloson "Jordan Leopold". So does that mean Jordan Leopold is Duane Roloson? Of course not. Just because it comes out of the mouth of an announcer doesn't mean it is fact. In case you haven't figured it out yet, they are trying to kill time and many times that includes spewing nonsense.

And guess what champ, it was pretty widely acknowledged last year that the Packers were one of the worst teams in the NFL. They had a record of 4-12. Guess how many of those losses were by a touchdown or less? EIGHT. Why, that's THREE MORE losses than the Cowboys had by a touchdown or less! So the Packers must have been better because they had more close losses. Or let me guess - that means the Packers have a great core!

At first I thought you were a misguided fool. Now I realize you are just a moron. But maybe that plaque that you have annointing you One of Canada's Biggest Cowboys' Fan is what gets you through the day.

Christ, at least when I argue with opiated and tiger they know their stuff.
Ry222 Wrote:With the signing of Fantini from the Jets, an excellent pass protector, it's alright if Bledsoe is immobile. He'll give Drew more time in the pocket to find Terry and Terrell.

Ya know, for a guy who knows more about the NFL than all of us lowly fans, you'd think you might be a little more educated on the free agents your team signed. Who is Fantini? I know the Cowboys signed OT Jason Fabini but I never heard of Fantini. Maybe you can shed some light on that.  Before making proclamations that you are a superior fan, try to keep up a little better. That's all. :thumb: Big Grin Big Grin It's alright to mistake names but it isn't alright when you make statements like: "As far as the Cowboys go - I am one of the biggest Cowboys fans in Canada and know alot about the NFL" or words like that. Buddy, have you ever bet on football? If the Colts are favoured by 10.5 over the Texans, obviously you are going to pick the Colts because the have the power to do so and you know they're going to win. But if you have a game like Cowboys-Giants where the spread is 1.5, first off you don't have a clue who is going to win and second by how much they are going to win by. It certainly is a tougher call.

Second, that Flames remark has no relation to this argument at all. The announcer simply didn't just state it himself that the Cowboys had lost a few close games - they showed it on a graph on MNF. All they were proving were that during week 11 when the Cowboys were 7-3 and heading into the thanksgiving day game vs. Denver, they could easily have been 10-0 and would easily make the playoffs. Clearly they aren't killing time like you have ignorantly said, but just saying that they are a playoff calibre team who are competing with the best.

Your quote about the Packers is just pointless ramble. The Cowboys were losing close games vs. the best of the best in the NFL and were winning them as well at the beginning of the season.
Also, the Cowboys do have a great core of players. The have pro bowlers on both sides of the ball with a new guy named T.O coming in as well.

Finally, you'd probably think every Cowboy fan is a fool or a moron right now, with all of the optimism that they have for the upcoming season, but let me hear you guys say some stuff about your favourite teams and let me criticize you and call you morons and idiots. I'm not on here to be called shit like that. I'm here to argue in favour of my team and what they got going for them, and when you start calling people idiotic and stupid, the fun and excitement of arguing and debating dwindles. If you want to start a name calling match, I'm not interested, because I don't think I'm in the mood to sink down to your level.
And sorry for mispelling the guy's name, for crying out loud. You know who I mean!
So let's hear who your guy's fave teams are and discuss their upcoming season. I'm not in the mood to defend my team anymore, you'll just have to watch and see them this season.

Classic. You just proved my point with that comment. Most games are close which is why most games have a narrow spread. Thanks for supporting my argument. Sorry champ, but Indy vs the Texans is not most games. Look up the definition of parody.

Here's a quick primer for you - the purpose of a point spread is to try to even the flow of money on both teams so that bookies don't lose their shirts in one sided games. That's the whole reason why the concept even exists. So, if the Cowboys are favoured by three, that's to try and get people to take the Giants.

Do you understand why teasers pay out less than bets against the spread? Because you are pushing the odds back in your favour by reducing the Vegas spread. What's that? Buying points reduces your payout? But gee, Ry222 said that a closer spread makes things harder! He must be right and Vegas must be wrong!

End of lesson.

Uh, yeah - so? And I just told you that the Packers could have easily been 12-4 rather than 4-12. So why do close Cowboys losses count as "almosts", yet close Packers losses don't? BTW, some of the Packers close losses were to Tampa, Carolina, and Chicago - you know - teams that went to the playoffs. Pointless ramble? Yeah, OK. What's pointless is making coherent arguments with you since you have no relevant comebacks.

Well, you know what? As a lifelong Cowboys fan, having some clueless moron tell me that since I don't like TO or the move to bring in TO I must be a closet Giants or Skins fan is actually worse than being called a moron. If you knew what you were talking about, I'd expect you to understand. But since you clearly don't know what you are talking about - and continue to prove that with each post (BTW, I still love "a close pointspread makes it harder"), I wouldn't expect you to get it.
Still, you are giving me nothing to argue with. It's just back and forth restating what we've alreaady said.
During week 11, the Cowboys were 7-3 and there three losses were by less than a TD. It's way easier to be 10-0 from 7-3 than 10-0 from
3-7, wouldn't you agree?
About the spread thing, I'm not saying that most games' spreads aren't by 7 or less. Im saying that it is harder to pick a game where the spread is 1.5 then if it was 6.5. You are just restating things over and over again and I'm getting quite sick of reading your posts.
All of the Cowboys losses as of week 11 were to Washington, Seattle and Denver - playoff teams. The Packers have nothing to do with this argument as they are in opposite boats as the Cowboys.
I don't understand why you didn't just come out and say that you were a Cowboys fan in the first place? I don't understand. You made me have to make a judgement myself and think that you were a Giants or a Redskins fan. If you were a real Cowboy fan, you would support Jerry Jones' moves even if you wouldn't do it if you were in his shoes. Jerry Jones is a brilliant owner, one of the best, and you have to believe that the signing of T.O will bring more good than bad to Dallas.
So in your next post, please state something that we actually have something to argue about, because this is getting quite boring with you trying to criticize everything that I say. Thank you.

A parity parody.

Do you see those little numbers down there to the right of this thread? Click on "1". Why? Because you'll see this:

cferneyh Wrote:I'm a Cowboys fan and I couldn't be more f*cking disgusted. I haven't felt this way since the Jays signed Clemens. I hate it when my favourite teams pick up players that I can't stand. I know Jerry wants to win - and bad - but isn't there a line?

That post was made before you came into the discussion, so why don't you do a little reading before you pass judgement.

Why do I have to blindly follow the leader? He sure didn't look like a genius when he was comparing Quincy Carter to McNabb, did he? What about the hiring of Chan Gailey and Dave Campo? Were those brilliant moves?

Just because he's the owner doesn't mean I have to agree with what he does. I'm also a Leaf fan and I was disgusted when they re-signed Domi. I'm a grown adult, capable of forming my own opinions and making my own decisions. Maybe you are some 12 year old who simply does what you are told. Fine. Be a sheep. What do I care?

Why do I have to believe TO will bring more good than bad? Because of all the good he did in San Fran, criticizing his QB and questionning his sexuality? Because of all the good he did in Philly? Signing a fat deal, asking it to be renegotiated, then destroying the team when he didn't get his way?

So far you have done nothing to convince me that signing TO is a good move. All of the evidence supports the general consensus that he's a selfish prick who does nothing but ruin the teams he plays for.

Perhaps you will be right and the Cowboys will win a Super Bowl or two while he's there. But I'm banking on him doing more harm than good, like he's done with his previous two teams. And I'm not happy that my favourite football team employs the biggest jackass in the NFL. Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Troy Aikman, Emmit Smith,.....Terrell Owens. Which one of these names doesn't belong?
Comparing Quincy Quarter to Mcnabb wasn't the stupidest move ever. Quincy did lead the Cowboys to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. I'm sure he'd be a good quarterback right now if the team didn't cut him due to drug allegations.
The worst move I can recall Jerry making as of today is the signing of Ryan Leaf. I still don't know why.
How am I a sheep because I am pumped about T.O coming to Dallas? Nobody told me to like the signing - all I know is that the best WR in the league is now a Cowboy and in terms of on the fiel performance, you gotta love it.
T.O is a Cowboy at heart. Just look at past Cowboys who were considered a "troubled distraction" in the past and made a great name for themselves while they were in Dallas - Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, etc...Dallas is definitely the place where these kind of players come to play and SUCCEED.
Oh, and why did you leave Irvin out of that All star list at the end? Is it because he was a bad player? NO. Is it because he didn't win a Super Bowl with Cowboys? NO. I think it's because Irvin has a similar personality as T.O and succeeded in Dallas and you just dont' want to admit it.
Stop being in denial about T.O in a Dallas uniform and look at the pro's - what he brings to the field. If Drew Bledsoe doesn't care about what kind of history T.O brings to Dallas, I think you shouldn't care either. Besides, you're not the one throwing him the balls this season, or are you?
I wonder if this heated discussion about a player signing isn't possibly sign of rampant steroid use in fandom Wink

Ok so I'm just trying to lighten the atmosphere a bit, as in the end, regardless of how staunch a fan we may or may not be for "our team"...getting this empassioned about a trade 6 months before the season starts is what creates hypertesion and strokes Big Grin
First off it wasn't a trade, the Cowboys simply signed him. And us football fans need this kind of excitement during the off-season - next to NFL Europe, that is haha.

Quincy led the Cowboys to the playoffs? That's rich. More like Parcells led by implementing a gameplan that minimized the potential mistakes that a hack like Quincy could make. If Quincy was a capable QB you'd see him starting somewhere else by now.

How was signing Ryan Leaf a worse move? Leaf was a short term gamble that didn't pan out. Quincy Carter was drafted WAY too high - despite the fact that he wasn't even going to be the starter at his college had to not declared for the draft - and Jerry said he was the next McNabb. So let's compare the two: signing Leaf to a short term deal as a roll of the dice or wasting a high draft pick on a QB who everyone knew sucked, and then watching him go out and suck before cutting him using his off the field antics as an excuse. If he was really going to be a good QB, they would have put up with the off the field antics, just like they did with Irvin and just like the Dolphins have done with Ricky Williams.

Irvin like TO? That's a good one. Irvin had issues with drugs. He didn't do anything to rip apart the team like TO has done. If I had a choice between Irvin in his prime and TO in his prime, I'd take Irvin. TO is the better receiver, but Irvin was a team player.

How exactly am I in "denial" about TO being a Cowboy? I can fully acknowledge he is a Cowboy. I simply don't like it.

Anyway, this is my last post on the topic. You're fired up and you think the Cowboys are going to win a couple of Super Bowls with TO. I'm pissed that the jackass is on my team and I know that this year he'll keep his yap shut and play well, and then next year he'll start whining about something.

By the way, I recommend you do a thorough read of the stunts he pulled in Philly. Not only was there the very public battle with McNabb and Hugh Douglas, but the guy would skip team meetings, he'd fall asleep at film sessions, and he'd refuse to open his playbook during offensive meetings. Yeah, that's a guy I want on my team.
