Oh..and Football, Kennedy-style (i think I asked that before..)

Football Kennedy-style--apparently the Kennedies (that can't be the right spelling) used to play a lot of football at their summer place back in the late 50s/early 60s. I think there were pictures of them in the papers or Life magazine at the time, the princes of American politics being amm human and stuff.

Gord D once defined "a Canada of a pain" as "a very large pain, almost as large as it's possible for a pain to be." I assume it's second only to a "Russia of a pain."

Football Kennedy style actually refers to their mountain football while wearing skis. which was the cause of death of Michael Kennedy, who hit his head on a tree in 1997.

Little Bones was released in 1991. That accident happened in 1997. Unless Gord D was displaying an unbelievable ability to predict the future, cfern is right.

The death obviously had nothing to do with the song.

Well, with all due respect, I don't think you are right. JFK and others would often play touch football on the front lawns of the various places they lived (including the White House) which made for nice, All American Photo ops.

John Kerry did the same in his attempts to come across as the next JFK.

While some Kennedys might have played football while skiing, I have a hard time imagining the President of the United States doing this on an annual basis. But, if you have evidence that suggests he did, then I will stand corrected.

If the song was written before the accident, then it cannot be referencing said accident as "football Kennedy-style". If the ski-football hybrid is actually refered to as such, then I could see your point.

I say this as a widely acclaimed expert on being a bitch.

To be a bitch, you have to at least be assertive enough to say flat out, "you're wrong."

Most of us in the professional bitch/asshole community agree that amplifying it is bitchier: "You're completely and totally f*cking out to lunch."

To the main point here: well, the long days of Shockley are gone. W.B. Shockley, I should think. Shockley was well known for his theories on race and intelligence in the 1960s. Given the 1960s connection, then football on the lawn, a big part of the whole Kennedy image, seems much more likely than football on skis.

But that has nothing to do with what the words actually mean. What might it mean to say that the days of Kennedy-style touch football are gone?

A "Canada of Pain" is sort of like being in a "World of pain", only not quite as bad. At least, that's how it's slipped into my vocabulary.

I know what I am. I'm confused. But that usually happens when someone mentions Dr. Phil. I get all sidetracked by the fact that he wants to be called by his first name but still insists on the 'Dr.' title. What's up with that? And, I have it on excellent authority that I'm a bitch. No apologia for it.

By the way, I think they're referencing the touch football thing too. That's what I always thought of, anyway.
