Wait till tomorrow when the Leafs sign Wendel Clark, Gary Leeman, Dave Ellett, Drake Berehowsky, and Nikolai Borschevsky to long-term deals.
   great post :thumb:
some more moves:
The New York Islanders have traded forward Mark Parrish and Brent Sopel to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Denis Grebeshkov and Jeff Tambellini.
Sharks acquire Ville Nieminen from NY Rangers for a draft pick or something
Montreal Canadians trade G Jose Theodore to the Colorado Avalanche for G David Aebischer.
Guess les habitants aren't so big on Huet after all.

you dont think that Huet will stay their number one?
i guess it's possible
Moreso, even... what is colorado thinking?????
JFJ's a busy man so far... and now, unbelievably, he's made a decent move!
Toronto Maple Leafs trade D Ken Klee to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for F Alexander Suglobov.
Klee has 15 points in 58 games.
Suglobov has 48 points in 51 games with the Albany River Rats of the AHL.
And get this..... Suglobov is YOUNGER than Klee by 10 years!!!!!!!!
Does Richardson's contract expire at the end of this season?
If so, then JFJ has basically gotten rid of Klee, a slow-footed defenceman not well suited to today's NHL, for a prospect from New Jersey... which should provide some hope that he'll pan out because Jersey's scouting staff is among the best in the league.
Not bad.
Of course I hope this is the case, otherwise what's the point of getting Richardson and giving up Klee? It's like selling your old car then turning around and buying your old car back.
As for the Theodore-Aebischer trade... that's a head-scratcher. I'm not totally surprised Montreal got rid of Theo given how bad he's been this year and how good Huet has been lately, but what the heck is Colorado doing? You exchange one decent goalie for another (anybody see much difference in talent/ability between Theo and Aebischer?), but add $3 million plus to your salary number in a cap environment? Huh????

They acquired 36 year old Luke Richardson from Columbus in exchange for a conditional draft pick (either a fifth round pick in 2006 Entry Draft or fourth round pick in 2007).
Sigh. I've tried to defend JFJ, but this makes absolutely no sense. Hey, you know what we need? Another slow footed d-man to complement Aki Berg, Ken Klee and Wade Belak!
Excuse me while I go light myself on fire.
It makes more sense now. The Leafs have dealt Ken Klee to the Devils for prospect Alexander Suglobov. Apparently now, the Richardson deal was a set up for this. This seems to suggest that there is another move coming on the Toronto blue line (presumably a big one). Here's hoping McCabe is the next to go, his stock will never be higher.

Au contraire. I think they
are big on Huet and that's why they let Theodore go.

Yeah, and Suglobov doesn't sound like too bad of a prospect either:

Hell, I think he's probably their 2nd best right winger already!
I guess Lamarello must have tired of his inconsistency.
Couldn't agree more re: McCabe. He's one of those militant PA types which to me means that - despite what he says about wanting to stay with the Leafs - he'll simply accept the highest offer he gets in the offseason. I think Kaberle is far and away the better d-man anyway. He may lack McCabe's toughness down low, but McCabe cancels that out by taking stupid Jovonovski-esque penalties too often anyway. Clear McCabe and Belfour off the books + the expected cap increase and the Leafs will have some money to go after a few players. Hell, McCabe single-handedly cost the Leafs the Flyers series in 04. Let him shit the bed in big games for someone else.
As as Habs fan, I like the Theo for Abescher trade, we free up some cap room and trade away a player who is horribly underachieving and seems to have trouble playing in the new NHL. On the flip-side Abescher has been playing really well the second half of the season and is a good no.1 goalie imo. I feel bad for Theo, but you had to think this was going to happen sooner or later, the fans would have run him out of town eventually had he kept playing so poorly. The only thing that could make this trade bad is if somehow Theo regains his MVP form and takes Colorado to the playoffs and beyond. I dont see it happening.

Why do you assume Aebischer will be the new #1 in Montreal? Huet's stats (GAA and save %) are considerably better.
Look for the Habs to make a big deal today and acquire someone to fill up that 3 million. Nowadays, money doesn't have so much of an impact at the trade deadline. It really is the first of it's kind. It's not just the Rangers and the Leafs that can afford to buy the old has-beens...anyone with cap space can do it. This will make for an interesting day.
As for Aebischer, he will prove to be an excellent backup. Huet is over-worked, and we saw that in the Philly and Toronto games this week. He's has great potential, but can't play night after night. Because Montreal has games in hand on most teams that they are fighting for a playoff spot with, they will be playing more hockey in the stretch run than their opponents.

Keep in mind that the $3 million the Habs have cleared (for this season) isn't $3 million, but a prorated $3 million. In other words, virtually anyone can take on a fat contract because they'll only be on the hook for about 20% of it (this season anyway).
Yes, but you still have to have the cap room for next season, should you want to get this player for their remainder of their contract.
For example, should Montreal acquire Bertuzzi today, it wouldn't be a short term run at the Stanley Cup for this year. It would be an acquisition for the long term.
