I came in here to mention "Blast Tyrant", but I see I was beaten.
Mass Romantic - NP's

fine....I omit Blast Tyrant....

and replace it with
KYUSS. : Blues for the Red Sun.
I just bought the new LIVE "greatest hits" and I have to say that it is a must have. The whole album is amazing. I also see a connection between Ed, the lead singer of LIVE and Gord Downie. Not because they are both bald haha, but because they bring so much energy to every song and have a similar, crazy, wild and unique live stage presence.
Anybody listen to the Magic Numbers? I just listened to a song called Love Me Like You by them. Its real good. They also do a great cover of Crazy in Love by Jay z and Beyonce. Doesn't seem like it would work but it does.
It's interesting, Douglas, that you say Mass Romantic, because that is the album that has never caught on with me to the extent of the other two. Because Twin Cinema is getting so much play (relatively) I'll say Electric Version by the NP's.

I'd say its ultimately the most rewarding listen of their three albums.
It may not be as strong as the other albums near the back end but its tough to beat Mass Romantic, Fake Headlines, Slow Decent, Occupant and Wild Homes. I got to see Neko sing Occupant in Regina. She stood about 3 feet back of the Mike and still overpowered the rest of the band. She is amazing.
It's funny. I recently made a Best of the NP's mix for myself, and those were the five songs I put on from Mass Romantic.

So naturally, I agree with your assessment. I just thought it was a curious album to recommend of their three, but I understand your reasoning now.
Peter Gabriel - Us
i'd forgotten how good the accoustic disc on the Foo's In Your Honour was..just listened again last night, and i think this disc will stand the test of time better than the "rock" disc..i would say everybody should hear that disc..

and of course, The Beatles 'white album'

and neil young, Rust Never Sleeps, in my mind his masterpiece
Gunn Wrote:"Grace" By Jeff Buckley

I listened to this, and Jeff Buckley for that matter, for the very first time tonight. Wow...what a fantastic album. I'm not sure why I waited as long as I have to listen to him, but I will certainly be spinning it more often.

Powerful music to say the least.

That's a great album. What happened to that guy is incredibly sad. He was just getting warmed up.
I am heading off to Memphis in a few weeks most likely will stop by near where he passed and to the Zoo where there is a dedication plaque
at the lions den where he would often go.

visited there a few years back and also stopped by graceland ( dead rockstar vacation tour)
Can't just do one. I listen to most genres of music, so I guess my recommendation would have to be tailored to a specific individual, so here's a few:

In Flames "Reroute to Remain" It is rare that I can listen to an album start to finish and absolutely love LOVE every track! Heavy and melodic at the same time.

LOTL "Shakespeare" - This disc has been beat to death on every CD player my friends and I own. I tell first timers if you have a love grudge, then this is the disc for you. Oh yeah, and you like beer.

The Afghan Whigs "Gentlemen" - See above. Absolutely brilliant.

Dinosaur Jr. "Where you Been" - One of many of the grunge era that never made it mainstream. J. Mascis writes some amazing music that has such a mood that it can easily be listened to on a hot sunny day at a party or when you are so depressed after a breakup on a rainy day. The music fits the atmosphere. Its uncanny.

Jimmy Buffett "Songs You Know By Heart" - I tell any would be Parrothead to start with the hits first. Great from start to finish. Especially with a frosty brew. :thumb:
