My thoughts as well.

The search feature is poor at best. If you have a thought, let it be known. If some people can't deal well with the idea of one more thread, oh well.

I think it's less an issue of "annoyance" than it is bandwidth.

People complain the about the 'convenience' of the search feature, then turn around and start new threads on old topics - what do you think comes of that? Answer: the next time someone does a search on a similar topic, there are that many more items populating the list of results. The problem compunds itself, making the ability to find desired results that much more difficult.

Spend a little more time thinking and less time complaining and this site will be easier for all to use, and less of a burden to maintain & operate for Lance and others who give so much of themselves to it.

Ah yes, the bandwidth issue again. If bandwidth was an issue, why can we upload pictures? Surely a picture takes up way more bandwidth than text in a thread. Are threads from 4 years ago relevant to todays Hipbase discussions? Some of them are, but the vasy majority are completely irrelevant...yet they still exist. If bandwidth was truely a problem, 3.5 years of threads would be pruned to make this a smoother running entity. It's obvious that bandwidth isn't an issue, or the suggestions I've brought forward would be put in place.

This is more about some forum users who have the notion that because a discussion may have happened in a thread already, that it doesn't have the right to happen again. If you subscribe to that mentality, good for you. I don't, nor will I in the future.
still though..the fact remains..why not just post in a thread that already exists??
I think this is getting made into too big of a deal...Relax

No it's not. It's about progressively making searches more and more difficult as time goes on. I noticed you completely ignored that point, probably because you have nothing with which to counter. And instead of thinking about that for a second, you choose to be completely obstinate. Nice.

Maybe it's not about bandwidth at all - I don't know - that's just what I've heard the site administrators say. Either way, the point that "duplicating threads makes conducting searches more and more difficult over time" should be enough to make anyone who cares about keeping a community forum convenient for current and future users take heed.

Apparently, some users like yourself are too self-centered and ignorant to think about any concept greater than his own personal ends and means.
Filling threads with off-topic stuff also makes searches harder.
Also, reading through posts that run 10 pages can be tedious especially with all the off-topic crap. Then throw in all the search-policing and that spam...

I say: Post Away!! This is a DISCUSSION board.

In response to the original post, which is sorta the point of a discussion board, I agree that the DVD rocks the house. And, what took you so long?! If you were with the rest of us, you coulda joined the discussion then! Wink

this can happen during slow weeks, once the new albumm drops and touring, the fighting ceases
