Wow. I felt bad for Moore through everything but the timing of this is pretty ridiculous.

Its hard to put a price on this type of thing, who can say what the "pain and suffering" and whatever else he's suing for is really worth. I partly blame the courts for this, someone spills a coffee and some judge decides that's worth 10 million in damages, than whats the next person obviously going to do? Im sure Moore and his lawyers looked at what kind precedents have been set in these types of lawsuits and decided on what they see as a "fair" amount. It does seem like alot to me, but if I had my neck broken by someone and lost my job as a pro hockey player-fourth liner or not, that I loved and couldn't do it ever again I'd be some pissed, Im sure the last couple of years hasn't been all roses for the guy. Im not saying Im totally pro Moore here, but Ill be very interested in what the courts decide, and it wouldn't surprise me if he wins and gets close to the amount he's seeking. It shouldn't be a hard case to prove, Bert's already been convicted in a criminal court and Moore's injuries are pretty apparent. Is it worth 15+ mil? I dont know, we'll have to wait and see. As for the timing of it, it is unfortunate, Im sure the last thing Bert wanted was to have that told to him while he's in Italy trying to win a gold for Canada, and have it all back in the media spotlight again.

I can't say I disagree with what you are saying, and I've generally sided with Moore through this whole thing, but the timing of it is what
really irks me. Clearly Moore is pissed with Team Canada for naming Bertuzzi to the team, so this is his feeble attempt at revenge. Surely this could have waited two more weeks, but Moore and his lawyer obviously came to the conclusion that it would get its biggest play if it happened now.
I like this part:
His parents, Jack and Anna, who were watching on television when Bertuzzi blindsided Moore, are suing for $1.5 million "for negligent infliction of nervous shock and mental distress."
The lawsuit claimed that "Anna was screaming and crying hysterically. Jack was utterly frozen in shock..."
I think I was utterly frozen in shock when Crawford left Gretzky on the bench during the shootout in '98. Excuse me while I go call my lawyer.
You don't get those 10 million suits over spilled coffee in Canada, thankfully, where courts tend to award limited punitive damages and compensate you only for real damages. This suit was filed in Toronto, so I think you can bet that 15 mil is based on a real, if optimistic, estimate of lost earnings potential, not a pie-in-the-sky number.
I wouldn't get excited about the timing. Bertuzzi isn't, I'll bet. He's already talked to his lawyer about the likelihood of this lawsuit, and they already have a plan, which will be to settle it out of court as quietly as possible. I doubt he's disturbed in the least.

He might not be disturbed in the least, but now he's going to get pestered by the media yet again, and get asked the same questions over and over and over and over again. I'm guessing that will annoy him.
