I guess I'll take one song from each album + BOTN and CMG.
----------------------------------------
Highway Girl
From: The Tragically Hip
----------------------------------------
Everytime You Go
From: Up To Here
The whole damn song but...
----------------------------------------
The Luxury
From: Road Apples
This album's got a lot of sentimental value for me. I think the best examples of Gord's poetic prowess can be seen in this song. It reminds me of a night I spent in Hamilton after a show where I stayed in a horrible 'Motor Inn' of likeness to the one described in the song.
----------------------------------------
Pigeon Camera
From: Fully Completely
This song, for some strange reason, reminds me of Ian McEwan's novel 'Atonement'. If anyone else here has read the book they can probably draw the same conclusions through the tone and mood of the song.
----------------------------------------
Emergency
From: Day For Night
This song just plain makes me sad.
----------------------------------------
Membership
From: Phantom Power
I can't help it. This whole damn album reminds me of Parry Sound. Must be because of Fireworks.
----------------------------------------
Lake Fever
From: Music @ Work
This is one of Gordie's best story-songs.
----------------------------------------
The Dire Wolf
From: In Violet Light
One of Johnny's best performances. Love the drums on this tune. When Johnny and Gord S. come in at the first chorus I get shivers...
----------------------------------------
Goodnight Josephine
From: In Between Evolution
Bam. Way to end an amazing album.
----------------------------------------
Canada Geese
From: Coke Machine Glow
----------------------------------------
Steeplechase
From: Battle of the Nudes
Amazing song. I've never heard anything like it before. The bass and the extremely faint guitar go so well together. This song is a NEED HEADPHONES song.
-----------------------------------------
Anyways, My name is Mike. Hello.
----------------------------------------
Highway Girl
From: The Tragically Hip
Quote:...yeah she just got back from around the world.
----------------------------------------
Everytime You Go
From: Up To Here
The whole damn song but...
Quote:He closed both his eyes and sorta gave her a kiss.
Quote:The Golden Rim Motor Inn,
Soft water and a colour TV...
----------------------------------------
Pigeon Camera
From: Fully Completely
This song, for some strange reason, reminds me of Ian McEwan's novel 'Atonement'. If anyone else here has read the book they can probably draw the same conclusions through the tone and mood of the song.
Quote:This house it has its politics,
Over there: that's my room,
And that's my sister's...
----------------------------------------
Emergency
From: Day For Night
This song just plain makes me sad.
Quote:From until it's no longer fun
to that's no longer relevant.
From until we're no longer one
to that's no longer permanent.
From the last survivors of those terms
to the bona-fide embodiment
of an endless emergency
without end.

Quote:Bring on the springtime bring on the houseflies
bring on the butterscotch river overspilling its banks
----------------------------------------
Lake Fever
From: Music @ Work
This is one of Gordie's best story-songs.
Quote:Ya didn't say yes or no either...
You whispered 'Hurry...'
----------------------------------------
The Dire Wolf
From: In Violet Light
One of Johnny's best performances. Love the drums on this tune. When Johnny and Gord S. come in at the first chorus I get shivers...
Quote:But never more 'here',
expanse getting broader,
though bigger boats been,
done by less water.
----------------------------------------
Goodnight Josephine
From: In Between Evolution
Bam. Way to end an amazing album.
Quote:Eyes flickering you're trying
to let a coffee cup warm your hands
maybe we're born lost
born to persevere
honey I'd walk into your painting
until I'd reappeared.
----------------------------------------
Canada Geese
From: Coke Machine Glow
Quote:and talk just to their cars
We can talk just to ourselves
or we can talk just to the stars
----------------------------------------
Steeplechase
From: Battle of the Nudes
Amazing song. I've never heard anything like it before. The bass and the extremely faint guitar go so well together. This song is a NEED HEADPHONES song.
Quote:a sound coming down...
of an entirely different race.
