Well hipbasers, it's that awful time of year again...yes, Valentine's Day. The one holiday that makes single and coupled folk alike feel positively horrible. If you are part of a twosome you have to think of a way to fully express your feelings for your partner, lest you sent to the exile of the living room couch. If you're single, the day is spent either a) pretending the flowers and chocolates on your desk aren't from your mother or b) sending mental daggers in the direction of anything red, pink, white or lovable. So, biting pessimism aside, how is everyone spending V-Day?

Um....in my car, travelling to see a fellow Hip fan I've never met in...what.....Syracuse?

Come on now - that's romantic and you know it.

Speaking of the dread that is Hallmarkentines Day, has anyone ever had a romantic relationship END on Feb 14?

I have. I cooked a nice dinner, bought some good wine, drew her a nice bubble bath to sink into after a hectic workday, used lace hearts and red silk at the placesettings for god's sake ...and what happens?

The chick has the nerve to get all tipsy and warn me that there better be a ring for a gift next Valentines Day!

:x

Believe it or not, the next serious relationship i had ended on the evening of September 11, 2001. What a horrific day that was....
I got over VDay about 7 years ago.

im spending the pretty much from morning to night at school, stupid group meetings
Mrs. Skippy told me long ago that she wasn't interested in Valentine's Day hype.

"That's a relief," I said, "because as far as I'm concerned, anyone who's so fucking self-absorbed that she would throw a snit because the bouquet was too small is what we in the wonderdog community call 'a bitch.'"

"I'd say what really matters is what you do day to day, not how much money you spend on this one day, once a year, with all this pressure to spend more and more," she said.

"Exactly!"

"And on that subject," she said, "why is the sink full of dishes ... sweetie?"

There was a brief and terrible silence.

"You know," I said, "I bought you some nice flowers."

Greatest story ever. And you know, things are only funny when there's a bit of truth in them. :thumb:

Well, my beloved is a huge fan of Valentine's Day and, as the future husband, I am obligated, but also more than willing, to comply. We're not doing anything revolutionary. Last year, I booked a horse-drawn carriage ride in Niagara-on-the-Lake and it rained and was just all around cold and shitty...so we cancelled. This year we stay inside. I've got some flowers on order to give to her on Monday (just to mix it up) and reservations at a very nice restaurant for Tuesday evening.
