I also defend SHDB. However, I believe AIAH's sound is just incompatible with the otherwise dark and sombre album. I think Emergency is a good fit. It has that rain falling at the beginning (in Riders on the Storm fashion) leading into that bass line. I like it.
And oh yeah - Fire in the Hole is a throwaway, but it kicks ass - what a vocal. The last glimpse, really, of the truly fierce and blistering Hip of old, with nicely ominous lyrics. A great fit on the record IMHO.
Lots of Coldplay hate here, I like them, I dont think they are the "next giant thing" like U2 or anything, but I dig their mellow sound, especially "Parachutes" thats still their best album imo. Anyway, I dont care if someone doesn't like them but I dont get this criticism..
2) They can't play hard music.
Do you want them to? What did you expect when X&Y was released, crunching guitar riffs and the "F" word in every song? Thats like saying Slayer sucks because they cant play slow love songs....well thats because they dont! If you want hard music, go buy an album from a band that actually plays hard music.

I can see that point and that is a valid argument. I won't speak for lilbones but maybe he included this to point out that they have no variation at all in their sound. Wheareas the Hip can pull off a song like ABAC and Blow both with great effectiveness, Coldplay are always stuck in 2nd gear. BUT, I know what you're saying. I think maybe the point was that they have no musical range. I could be way off base though. I'll have to see what lilbones has to say. :thumb:
Okay back to the SHDB discussion..
Jenna be honest when you hear the music alone to SHDB doesn't it make you want to gyrate around & start to slowing remove your clothes?
Fortunately for all involved I only listen to that one when I'm alone! Can't imagine the trouble I could get into otherwise
Hey lilbones, maybe when you're a little bit older & a nice young girl decides she want to put on a private show for you, you'll think twice about SHDB  . yeah yeah I know, it mentions a stripper quitting a show but remember it's not always about the lyrics.
I suppose it's about time for me to chime in again.
Re: So Hard Done By. Decent tune, and I get the points. It's just not my favorite, and I don't think it's essential. But I mean obviously if it was voted top-35 by hip fans, I'm in the minority, which is fine. However, there are times when it's the only song I feel like listening to, which is pretty much how I operate with all Hip material. I Have no 'hate' for the song, it's just that the Fire In the Hole-An Inch An Hour sequence that I'd point out as the weak link of the album, if I were forced to do so.
Re: Coldplay. I don't hate them either. And I don't want them to do anything they want to do. But as pointed out, they do seem stuck in second gear, and lack variation. This is why I don't get the passion people have for them. They seem listless sometimes, unwilling to go beyond their comfort zone, and their comfort zone is too narrow. And I do believe there is a movement out there to have them as the next 'biggest band in the world.'
But this is all far too analytical for something I wrote because I thought the concept had some funny potential.
Once again, thanks for the feedback, I'm a fan of discussion.
P.S. In theory, 20 years would be enough time to receive a dance from a lady friend to SHDB, although I haven't, nor would I want to. I mean what if it was a bad experience. Would I have an aversion to the song? The solution. Only receive dances to Nickelback songs. There's nowhere to go but up there.
