So my 1.8 ghz, 1gig ddr, radeon 9600xt is getting old. Im looking to update it and have no idea whats good and whats not. Basically i want to keep my case and get a new motherboard, processor and video card.
Becasue my video card isnt that bad I want to get that item last (also since it can be the most expensive).
As for processor or motherboard type i really have NO preference in brands.
If you guys could help suggest some ideas on what to go with or suggest some good webistes on the subject or websites of stores that would be great.
*edit* disregard that post, I mis-read your question.
what about "all in wonder" cards. Does anyone know if you can hook up satellite to it? Figure it would be cheaper to do that , rather then getting a pvr.
A Radeon "All-in-Wonder" card will let you capture most types of video input and does give you tuning abilities(depends on your receiver). I had one for a few years, but traded when I upgraded to a high-performace card. Your best bet is to just buy a tuner-card, they're quite inexpensive(got mine for under $40). This gives you many more options when picking your vid-card.
........ :?
sorry Ive had too many beeers tonight.

Processor - Make absolutely sure you get something with 64-bit processing abilities, as the next generation of OSes are going to be requiring it. I don't know what your price range is, but you might want to spring for a dual-core Athlon, although they're very expensive and the price is guaranteed to go down by the time dual-core is a necessity.
Video Card - Wait for the Nvidia that runs in the XBox 360 to go to PC market, or just go with whatever you want. I'm running an ATI Radeon X700 pro and it's pretty nice, a little on the light side for next gen, but you can get one cheap as hell off Newegg.
Processor - You know, I don't know!

Hey gratts, have you played PDZ yet?? If so how is it? Im thinking of picking it up this week, just wondered if its worth buying, I heard the single player is not so great, but the multiplayer is awesome.
sorry to go off topic.
i get all my parts here: www.ncix.com
-they've usually got links to professional reviews of the products and also user feedback on them
-excellent customer service and you can pricematch
-as for mobo, i'm running an asus and love it, and imo you can't go wrong with an asus or abit board -- however i know some hardcore gamers/overclockers that run the DFI LANParty board, but that's probably more than u need
... and if you are going 64-bit, go with an AMD chip - from what I've read/heard, AMD are leagues ahead of Intel in the 64bit market
other than that your system sounds fine - the radeon 9600 should run most games on the market, but if you want best bang for your buck look at an nvidia 6600gt or 6800gt instead of the radeon X series cards... you can pick one of those units up for around $200
my only comment would be to upgrade to dual channel ddr if it isn't already dual
i think that's it
btw, lizard, what is PDZ?

Its a game for Xbox360, a first person shooter/spy game.. http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/015/015335.html
i havent played pdz yet, havent received my free copy yet. Heard its ok in singleplayer but is the best multiplayer game for 360 as well. I also heard that the graphics are "different"
Also im trading in madden cause i am VERy dissappointed with the gameplay. It plays like a Beta copy, but looks very nice. Gameplay is off, too fast or something. Im sure the 2007 version will kick ass but as for now im going to trade it in for the 40 bucks store credit.

I have Maddens and I enjoy it, it looks great, but ya next years games will blow these away. I traded NHL2K in it was garbage, I got Tiger 06, it pretty good, the graphics and gameplay are awesome.
